rack mount

Does anyone know of a company that would manufacture a good standard 19" rack that could mout a gm300 or cdm-1250? I am planning on mounting a couple in my Motorola consoles for backup and on the fly programming if need be. I can make "custom" mounts with angle iron and then cover it with sheet metal( looks kind of cheesy), but I am looking for something that might look more professional. Any body have any suggestions?

There's this guy on e-bay that does custom rackmount stuff for Icom HF HAM gear. He might be able to do mounts for M mobiles... He could be a good place to start. Other than that, I'd go to a local sheet metal fab shop. Just sketch out what you want ahead of time, and they can probably do one in a couple of minutes, and probably won't cost you an arm and a leg. Then you can just spray paint it. If you want it to look better, throw it in the oven at about 250 or 300 for 20-30 minutes, then spray it evenly right when you take it out. Then, put it back in the oven at about 200 or less to dry it completely (another half hour should take the taciness out of the paint, for the most part). Best of all, your wife will love how it makes the kitchen smell... haha

I would recommend having it made out of maybe 10 gauge sheet metal. This should be thick enough to be pretty sturdy...

If you contact the people on e-bay, and they want a minimum order quantity, post back here what that qty is, because some other people might be interested...

Middle Atlantic Products will make a custom rackmount for just about anything.

Here are some CDM series mounts that they did for me (around $75 a piece):

P.S. Don't bring up the RG58 with the adapter. It was only temporary, and has since been replaced with one of Monty's fine custom cables. The accessory connector is a lot prettier now too...

One more thing.... The Gai-Tronics tone remotes in your photos.... are the mounts from Gai-Tronics or from some one else? I have got an ITA-2000 with a GM-300 that I am using currently. I cannot seem to find any kind of literature from Gai-Tronics either way. Thanks in advance for the additional help!

The rack mounts for the tone remotes are from GaiTronics.

Frankly, they were obscenely expensive (I'm remembering $100+

) , not that well built / finished, and were on back order for about six hours short of forever.

With the wisdom of hindsight, I would have just had Middle Atlantic punch each panel for one radio and one remote. It would have been cheaper, neater, and easier to wire. Oh well...

Thanks so much for the help! I will take your advice and see if Middle Atlantic will punch me a custom radio/remote panel. Hopefully they will not be too expensive! Thanks again for the assistance. Just out of curiosity, what kind of console are you using with the remotes? Looks like a very nice install job, by the way.

The radios are currently feeding three paralleled MC2500 desksets, spread throughout our HQ. The idea was to leave it flexible in case we want to add on in the future, or bring in outside lines to serve as a backup site for the county.

Everything inside the building was a new install, and was done right. I'm just hoping that I can get them to replace our current sad excuse for a tower before it shows up as an "ooops" post here!

That is a sweet setup. I am in the process of re-building our radio room, and we are using a comtegra with a tone remote to a gm300. We just picked up a used Centracom II that I am going to be starting to install once construction is complete. I know it is an older system, but we got a great deal on it. Plus as we are the village EMA, our duty cycle is some what less that the PD dispatch center. (which we will end up being a back-up for) When we are done, I will have to post some pics

We custom mounted GM300's that exact way, but instead of the whole head sticking out we cut 2 screw holes and a rectangle out so that the radio actually mounts inside and the head just mounts to the rack display. I think the CDM mounts in these pics are SWEET and we are starting to use a 1550 for a MDC display and I think I will have them order one of these!
