Genius needed.. 12VDC Remote

Post by FireTim »

Ok Folks. This is what I need. I have a new vehicle that I would like to install my emergency lighting in the back window. BUT !! I don't want to run wires to a switch in front. What I would like is a remote control on-off switch. I have aux power already provided to me.
Is there anything out there in the electronics world or a GENIUS on the board that could build one.
Any help would be appreciated

You may want to read this post and it's reply.

Also that would be the right board to post this kind of stuff in.

Autozone (at least around TX) sells a remote activated switchbox. The box has 4 12v switched outlets and uses what looks like a car keyless entry fob (even has a split ring for your keychain) remote that turns stuff on and off. I use one o remotely control outside lights and works just fine. You coul mount the control box (small) up under the package tray and the remote anywhere

In the time you are going to take to install a remote unit for a rear light and configure it for toggle operation (push on, push off), I could have installed the wire and front-mount switch five times!

This really isn't going to make things easier.

Remote control for lights

Post by calif dave »

A lot of the new cars have keychain remotes that will un lock doors and things like that. Check with the local car stereo dealer and see if they have an alarm system that has the door unlock option. You should be able to adapt that to your needs.
I found a remote receive unit with a keychain transmitter years ago at a flea market. That is all it did was give a open/closed set of contacts.

Good Luck

-Federal Signal SS2000SC(-SM)

Overkill, but why not.

-TST TouchTek 6

6 switch remote mount switch panel...neat unit for low current applications

-Run a 10ga b+ wire from the battery to the trunk, and a 18ga switched b+ control line and mount some relays in the trunk to control your deck lights.

Cheap and dirty, and like Jim says....not hard to do and relatively time efficent.
Do not make Sig angry...he'll just keep ringing the bell.
