Do you need a different RIB to use Lab RSS?
I have a "San Diego" version I built that works well with regular RSS but not with Lab RSS.
Can the San Diego version be modified to use both ?
Thanks for any tips.
Different RIBs ??

Hi:
What is a [ San Diego ] version?
Home made? Purchase?
In the majority of the cases, if you have a
RLN4008B ( or E ) along with a Power Supply
Battery, and stable Computer Platform 386-486-25 using DOS 6.22, you should be OK.
Homemade Clones made " Exactly " like the
Original using the proper IC's and componets
should work, but if you have made a error, be advised, you could turn your radio into a
heafty paper weight.
If you have something outside those parameters, it could be anything: Fast
Computer, Corrupted Software, Using RSS
while under windows, and the list goes on.
Let us know what'ca have, and then I can
give you some good pointers.

The RIB I have is the partial kit offered by Sandy at MotorCity (he's linked to the Batlab page). It works fine with other versions of RSS, but not the Lab version. I use a Pentium 120, Windows95 and have the shorcut set to close windows and open pure DOS (Ver. 6.2) not a Windows shell. Since the system works on Maxtrac Ver 6 & Ver 7 and GTX RSS, I think my setup is OK. I just think something is missing from the RIB to run the Lab version.
HI:
With your Pentium 120 I would use
extreame caution. I have restored
many code plugs corrupted by them.
Just becuase it may work most of the
time, is no real assurance it will work
al the time.
When dealing with Maxtracs, 486-25 using
real DOS id the only way you can make it
work properly ( and reliable )
Motorola DOS based programs really do not
work well under a Windows95 OS.
Anyhow, 386's and 486's are as common as chickens...If you get one of those you will
find it will work well.

You can open DOS by exiting Windows95 and going to DOS, not a shell. It's the same as if you had only DOS on the computer. My setup has DOS 6.2 in a seperate directory to facilitate opening a pure DOS window.
Perhaps the Lab RSS is a real dinosaur and needs a 386 to work.
I think I may still have a 286 out in the garage !!

You should not use the shutdown -> goto dos method to program!
There are many small random things that Microsoft still loads into memory. The correct thing to do if you need some sort of GUI OS (95/98) is upon booting, just before you get the splash screen for the OS, press F8 several times, and then selection option 6 - safe mode command prompt.
That is what I use, and is the safest way to guarentee MS Winblows hasn't gotten in the way.
