I finally replaced the dual dashmiser with a blown p/s in the supervisor truck with a red/white talon. (my red/white talon, i should add, cheap bastards)

Damn. Damn damn damn.
I'm impressed. I'd never seen one of these suckers prior to now.

I was installing it in the daytime, turned it on, and walked around the truck to see it.

And now i have little lines in my eyes.

Heres a cheesy little 2.2mb avi video of the little sucker before i installed it. Right click, save as

I've got one that I'm using as a deck light, and I'm impressed for the most part. Only thing I noticed was when used as a steady burn, the p/s can't handle it and it dims after a few seconds to about 60% of it's brightness.

So much for getting another one as a front steady burn...

i've ran this on the steady/comet pattern for about 20 minutes this morning on a run and didnt notice any degredation at all. of course i wasnt paying too much attention to the light during most of it, but the few times i glanced back at the truck, it was still as bright as *$#$%

You have seen the light.

I love my Talon. People will always argue over which is better, Talon, Predator, Tomar, etc. This point, I think they're all pretty much the same. RFB. I love the talon because of it's size. Fits right above my Impala's mirror with no problem. Combined with the halogen grills I've got, I can cut through traffic like a warm katana through cheese. I do need a add a 3rd suction cup to keep it stable. Silly Whelen. :>

I'm sure the price of the Talon and other Whelen products will go up this year since their name is plastered all over a race car now.

to quote my 7th grade lab partner.
"dang, that thing cuts thru like a hot butter thru knife"

Brightness wise, that talon is the second brightest dash light i've ever seen, head on. Second only to the whelen MM TIR3 slimlighter.
But go past about a 20 degree angle off center, and nothing, including some halogen models i've seen can be noticed as well as the talon.

Hell, responding on that call last night on the freeway, i cut thru the traffic pretty well, and i'm pretty sure it was the talon doing most of the clearing, not the 2 rotator NFPA firehawk on top of me.

HAHA...I had a similar experience after driving my old company's command suburban last fall. It's got 2 weak double flash strobes in the grille and an old POS vector bar with nasty domes...So I brought two dual talons and popped them up on the dash...worked like a charm.

As all units went in service, I told one of the troopers who was amazed at the talons: "I was utterly disappointed and not flattered by this vehicles lighting system -- so I brought my own"

You know, whenever people take pictures of their lights (myself included) and they're not mounted on vehicles, it's almost always on a bed.

Makes you wonder... :D :D :D

I have a 52 inch twinsonic... its currently in storage because the coffee table it was previously mounted on was given away...
However, when i first got it, and noticed it was the perfect length to mount across the headboard of my bed... Guess where that twinsonic spent several months of its life.
And yes, it was fully functional.

This was indeed the day that I was introduced to the brutal, painful (yet blissfully sweet) power of a talon. And speaking of the POS setup on that suburban, I've been tempted many a time to plow that thing through a field and into a hole or something 8)

Oh man, I lost one of my two NFPA rotators on a response today.
I'm down to wigwags, the talon, and 1 rotator on the firehawk with a cascade mirror.

Damn fedsig. I'm pulling the bar off tomorrow.

Why the hell are you using a FireHawk with mirrors? Doesn't NFPA just say no white to rear or on scene, etc?

(Don't flame me...not up on NFPA regs)

Can't you load it out with rotators and appropriate filters and white cut off?

being an private ambulance company, the only regs we have to follow are state and local laws.

we got the firehawk with 2 rotators with cascade mirrors, and a center "sweepy light", red/clear/red domes, and no lower options, off a wrecked ambulance in a junk yard. Paid 75 bucks for it, and it took us an hour in the sun getting the damn thing off.

Mounted it to the older of the two supervisor/supply trucks we have. The newer truck is down with a blown head gasket, so we had to sweep the cobwebs off of this bronco.

When i first started it, i found the dual dashmiser on the dash to have a bad PS. (Conviently, the same day that my ebay talon arrived) Also, the sweepy-light had a burnt out bulb.

Now that its down to one functional rotator, its so coming off tomorrow when i get back to work and find some tall person to help lift it off. Mind you, its got clamp-on mounts, not bolts. It also has a single power wire and ground wire going to it.
(no matt, not telephone wire)

Since this thing will only be in service for a few more days, and since noone should actually respond in it, i'm going to be following the bare minimum when it comes to texas law... (minimum of 2 red lights foward, and 2 red lights rear, set to alternate)

Installing 2 SM-1's in the back window, and a red/red gen1 slimlighter in the front window, set to a standard alternate pattern.
Hopefully, they can manage not to respond out the truck. Especially since they dont have any paramedics assigned to it at all.

The talon lives in my backpack, so its only installed on the truck when i'm in it. And, its currently on the windshield of the yukon outside.

I also just got my Talon dual light. I got red/amber. Very bright, I have mine above the rear view mirror also. Works great and the tinted windshield doesnt seem to bother it!

who makes this talon? i am looking for a good light for my truck. also anyone know how hard it is to put hide aways in a chevy z71
Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
