Hi,
I am trying to build a pager programming interface for the advisor gold, but am not having much luck, though it will work with the Minitor III.

I have two interfaces, one uses the MAX233 chip and the other a 74HCT14 chip, yet neither seem to be able to communicate with the pager.

Does anyone have any hints or insight specific to the advisor gold?

Thanks, Eric

I've used an interface I made with a MAX233 and a single resistor with Advisor Golds and Elites before. If you just tie the tx and rx lines together it won't work. You need something like a 10K resistor between the tx line and rx line/pager

I have made a prorammer that works for the Minitor 3 using the Max232 schematic. There is nothing else added inline with the pager, and it works fine. We've programmed 2 different Minitor 3's and several Advisor pagers.

Do you have a URL for which you aquired this schematic? I'll see if it's the same one we used.

Steve,
I'm also using the one with the MAX233 chip, and trying to get it to work with the Advisor Gold. What I think I'm hearing is to connect the RX line and the GND to the pager, and then tie the TX line to the RX line via a 10K ohm resistor. Is this correct? Thanks.

Thanks for the info.

The MAX233 interface I got in a swap for a Minitor III programming nest.

The 74HC14 came from this site:
http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/ ... /pf56a.htm

The other one came from here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lmrpager/ ... 32-ttl.gif
Comparing it to the MAX233 it is essentially the same with out the built-in capacitors.

I will try adding a resistor to the MAX233 interface.

Is there other software available for the aadvisor gold or only from Motorola.

Thanks, Eric

Also, the 74HC14 uses a Schottky diode betwwen the Tx/Rx lead, but unfortunately I don't know which type and I cant get ahold of the author.

Thanks again, Eric
