MT1000 6 channel to 8 channel

I have a MT1000 low band portable and changed the model number just as you would with a UHF MT1000 8 channel to 16, I changed the 6 in the model to 8 and it let me add and send the freqs to the new channels, now all I wonder before replacing the 6 channel rotery selector to a 8 channel will the radio work on these channels or does it just appear on the radio but not work? I also read the code plug and everything seems to be there?I just don't want to change the selector if it won't work

Why change the switch? Just pull the knobs, pull the sticker, change the position of the stop.

Most of the 6 channels have the 8 position switch installed with the stop to keep it a six.

The Mt1000 will work just fine.
