NMO for XM Bands?

Post by EOppegaard »

This little cheesy antenna for my XM Radio absolutley blows.

I looked into getting one of the antennas made for a boat, or an RV that mount on a stick, however I would love it if anyone knew of an NMO mount alternative...now, before people start spouting off antennas...remember I also need some way to get this connector onto the back of the unit. I have one of the newer single "pink" connectors, sorry I don't know the exact name.

Thanks for the help guys

Is it the little XM antenna that looks almost like an active GPS antenna?

If so, i have one of those on my truck - and to be honest - don't have ANY issues with it. You may want to take it back and get another.

If memory serves, the XM connector is a FAKRA SMB.

I've never found an NMO-mount XM antenna. I've got one of the small puck-style antennas on the roof, and it works great... that is, after I ran it totally separately from the other wiring (15 NMO mounts on the roof, plus massive amounts of control and power). The first time I ran the coax down, I was enjoying my XM when I hit the master power switch and lost all signal on the XM (totally 100% dead). So, after a four-letter aria, I had to rerun the coax through its very own path. Now, it works like a charm. You may want to consider local interference a possibility for your poor reception as well.

Got a New Antenna

Post by EOppegaard »

I picked up a new antenna today, works about the same.

I don't have too much of a problem with reception, at least in open areas, however I would like just a neater way of running the cabling.

I know that I could run the cable through the roof as is, however I just figured an NMO mount style antenna would look nicer, and just give it a more professional looking install.

If you're talking about the Blitzsafe micro antenna, it's the best I've ever used and i've used everything from the Terk Glass Mount Dildo to the Pioneer Shark fin. blitzsafe makes the best and smallest antenna ever. It's also the cheapest @ Apx. $30.00!!

As neat as it an be in a 93 Wagon with wayyyyyy too much wiring to begin with...hey Matt, it's better than the "wire nest" under the hood that it used to be...however I am still concerned about the need for an 80amp fuse under my ass.

Have you installed the Halon system and the "Pull in case of fire" handle on the dash?

Try switching to Sirius where the satellites are directly over the U.S. not off from the equator. XM has to fill in their coverage with a host of half-assed "analog" repeaters. Sirius has much better sound quality as well and sports...
