My Truck Install Pictures

Post by WK9F »

Here's some pictures of my install:

Image

Exterior View - 2003 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Image

The "Cockpit"

Image

Another view of the Cockpit

Image

In this view, you can see the video camera in the windshield next to the rear view mirror

Image

The "Avionics Bay"

The Equipment is as follows:

Console (top to bottom)

UHF 110 watt MCS-2000 Model 2
800mhz A7 Spectra
VHF A9 110 watt Spectra

Computer is a Panasonic CF-27 w/ docking station and touch screen.

The Smart Siren SM controls the Vector bar and the amber corner strobes.

The small 4 switch controls the blue forward facing corner strobes, alternating headlights and the rear facing blue Fireball 2's

I like 'tunes' and I spend a lot of time in here, so I also have an Alpine AM/FM cassette radio, Delphi XM radio, and a 10 disc CD changer.

The antennae (or is it antenni?) are all Antennex and are:

5db VHF whip
5 db UHF whip
3 db 800

GPS antenna is unknown.

Judge them as you will, but be gentle.

Nice! Is there any room for a passenger in there? :)

I'd like to see pics of an install in a 2004 F-150, they're completely redesigned and I believe they have a factory console that completely covers the transmission hump.

Believe it or not, yes, my 'other half' has plenty of room. Anyone bigger than her though and they're in trouble. 8)

Yellow are for when I snow plow and the blue is for the VFD I belong to.
pj wrote:And what's the yellow button on the A9 head?
The yellow button is the VRS button (VRS not installed)

It would be an MMCX pigtail. That goes from his 1150 to some form of external antenna, be it NMO, mag mount or a dash mount.

No passenger airbag issues to worry about? I would really hate to be in the passenger seat during an accident with or without an airbag.

I'd definitely get an airbag defeat switch, if Ford doesn't have one in there.

At least it's the 'good' Vector without the smart pods. I chose that bar because it looked better than the Jetsonic or the Streethawk.

About the wire ties - I didn't have black ones big enough. Actually, I would have rather used wire loom, but I couldn't find any big enough. The biggest I could find was 1" and I needed more like 1.5".

It's still a 'work in progress'.

 Where?

jim wrote:I'd definitely get an airbag defeat switch, if Ford doesn't have one in there.
Ford provides a passenger side airbag defeat switch, you just can't see it - it's behind the XM radio. I keep it turned off because the 'other half' is 'vertically challenged' and is worried about the airbag.

Looks great nice to see a vehicle post since it was getting scarse in here lately.

Why didn;'t you run all the lights to the SS2000? I can't imagine you need more switched outputs than the SS has?

Actually, yes I ran out of switched outputs. I ran over by 2, so I just put the VFD stuff on it's own switch box.

KitN1MCC wrote:Why not an Edge.
I suppose the simple answer would be that I didn't have one.

That is the one problem with the SS2000 you only get those 5 extra outputs.

Anyway, looks great. I may see you around those parts of the world as I'm for a job in McHenry Co.

Actually, the video camera doesn't go anywhere yet. I'm still debating whether to use tape as the recording medium, or a USB video capture card with external hard disk for the computer.

Anybody have any thoughts?

If you're gonna run the cam any time the vehicle is on, i'd just figure make it as brainless as possible (ie - loop recorder) and only pull the tape when you catch something good....

If you are looking to just use it when you see something that gives you a bit of a warning, then i'd set up the capture card on the laptop...that way you can stop and start recording as you see fit....even with an external harddrive on that laptop, you're gonna be smoking that cpu ripping video to that HDD across the USB bus. poor thing.

one gives you "all-see-all-record" ability, and the other "record-on-demand"

(yay, fun with color)
ok, i'm a cornball.

What brand/model camera is that and what kind of mount. Looks real nice, fairly compact.

The camera is a unit made by JVC for Crim-tek Industries. It's a 2 piece color camera. The part that is seen is the remote head that contains the color CCD chip. The rest of the electronics are in another piece that is buried in the dash board. I don't have the model number handy, it's on the piece in the dashboard.

The mount is something I picked up at Lund Industries. It's just an 'L' bracket and a swivel that screws into a small bracket that is glued to the windshield.

The camera mount it from an Eyewitness video system. It mounts with a glue kit from a rearview mirror. The " L " is made by gamber-Johnson. Its from their shortstack mount.

Doing a Maxtrac install in a Ford F250. Would like input, where to mount, where to get power, hints, tips etc. Just whatever that will help.
