Windows RSS and Computer Speed

Does the new breed of RSS designed for Windows have the same problem with a too-fast computer as the older DOS software? I'm still trying to find out why I can't read some CDM1250's with out an error message.

No processor speed issues with the Windows CPS have been noted by Motorola. They are true Windows applications, so it really shouldn't matter. The minimum speed they recommend is 450MHz, with 128MB of RAM. The HT/CDM runs fine on my P-120, but it's veeerrry slow opening a larger (50 channel with 129 member MDC call list) codeplug. Pretty much the same story for the MTS/MCS/XTS stuff. As far as your problems go, did you install the recommended patches off the CD for your particular OS? You will have problems if you didn't (especially with Win95, depending on the version).

No problems with a Dell Latitude CPi... P2 266mhz, 64mb ram. Runs like a charm!

CPS 6.0 runs just fine on a Compaq 800 MHz.

While we're on the subject, does anyone know of a PCM/CIA card that plugs into a laptop to give you a serial port?

My new laptop has no serial port.

I did install everything and can read/program our HT1250's without a problem. The software actually reads the radio OK, it gives up when trying to build the database to display the codeplug. I'm using Win98 on an AMD K6-2 450.

Jim, nice to see you read my posts! I provided a link for you to check a few months ago when the question was asked back then. I'm too lazy to go find it now. It was a PCMCIA interface which could provide you with many different ports, including serial.

Bob, the literature that comes with the CPS specifically states Pentium processors. Perhaps your AMD processor is the root of your troubles? I can't say for sure, but I've seen many, many similar issues with other computer programs over the years. Like it or not, most software is developed on & optimized for Intel processors (it's changing, but slowly). Try an Intel based computer.

I have seen this problem a little bit lately too. Finally I just gave the computer a little more time to load the database and it worked. Without seeing it, hard to say. Mine was stuck on the initalizing database, I let it sit and eventually it came up. Try going into task manager (ctrl-alt-del) and be sure it does not say "Not Responding" next to your program though. That would mean your program locked up and try again.
