MTS2000 controller will a model 1 work a full display front

Will the conroller on a MTS2000 top display (6 digit) work a full keypad front display (14 digit) front cover. A friend and I have been trying to get it to work but the display and buttons only light up. there is no display on the LCD and the buttons do not beep when pushed. Are we missing something or ...?

Before you go too much further,,, better check the firmware version and then make sure you read up on toolproofing.. You could be quite upset if you don't read this first.. If you have old enough firmware you can do what you are looking to do...

where is the firmware rev number. it is not displayed in the selftest (5 buton salute).
