CM200 - Selective Radio Inhibit? UPDATED
Can anyone here confirm if the CM200 can respond to a selective radio inhibit command? There is conflicting literature, some of which states it's only a feature for the CM300, some state it's for both.
I know there's no programming parameter for it in the CM200, but after much confusion, our local Motorola sales rep is being told the CM200 will respond to inhibit by default...there's just no way to turn it off. That's great if that's the case, but would like some 'real world' confirmation before ordering 60+ radios & MC2000 stat-alert console.

Thanks. Can't say I'm surprised that our local M rep can't get the right information from their own 'tech support' guys. We will have an MC2000 arriving soon for testing purposes, I'll post any results.motisking wrote:Hello Todd.
I attempted to:
Selective radio INHABIT
Selective radio CALL
a CM200 with no sucess. I do not have a CM300 available.
Both my price pages and ECAT CD show the PM400 is the model you need for this "advanced" MDC12000 feature.
On another note motisking, will you be at the Canopy training May 18th/19th? If so, I'll see you there.

An update for anyone who may be interested:
I have verified that a CM200 will indeed respond to both 'selective radio inhibit' & 'radio check' commands.
I used an MC2000 advanced local remote tied to either a CDM1250 or CM200 (tried it with both, in different bands). The CM200 will display '0' and not respond to any button/mic presses & the speaker remains muted. You must send an 'enable' command to the radio to revive it, reading/writing a codeplug results in an error.

Radio Disable/Inhibit using MC2000
Im pulling my hair out. I have here a brand spanky new MC2000. It has a tone remote with it. I have it connected to a CDM1550 VHF.
The scenario is, it will be used to control a system of about 45 HT1250's in a Jail type setting. They want to use the Deskset to be able to display PTT ID's in MDC1200 signalling system. They also want to use the Deskset to enable and disable radios remotely. (In case one is stolen).
I have been fiddling with the programming software and cant figure out how to get the D&%# thing to work. The instructions are pathetic.
Based on this thread, it looks as though wavetar was trying to do the same thing I am trying to do.
I really need help. Thanks in advance.

Hi Don. I can update the thread with details on the MC2000 early in the week, since the info is at work, and I currently am not.
Off the top of my head, Here's a few things to consider: You must leave any MDC functionality in the CDM1550 turned off. The radio just acts as a transparent RF link for the MC2000, the remote takes care of any MDC encode/decode functionality. I just had to enable the MDC signalling in the MC2000. Once enabled, I believe there was a box that needed to be checked to display the MDC ID's. If you've gotten this far, there's not much more to it. You need to program a button for 'inhibit', and another one for 'enable'. To send the inhibit, you press the button, enter the 4-digit MDC number of the target unit, then tap the transmit button. You will receive some sort of 'successful' indication if the target radio responded to the command. If the target was turned off, or out of range, then you will get an 'unsuccessful' indication after several re-tries.
Let me know if this helped.

Woohoo! I went in to the CDM 1550 and disabled MDC. Then, from the MC2000, I pressed the Radio Disable button, entered in the MDC code for the test HT 1250 I have, and viola! The radio shut down.
Thats pretty cool how the radio goes completely dead. Change channel, turn off and on again.. nothing. The radio appears to be completely dead... Until... you send it an Enable command! Then the radio comes back on.

Glad to hear you got it going. Lots of people make the mistake of enabling MDC in the base radio, which then interferes with the remote trying to do the same job. People just assume the radio needs to be MDC capable in order to do anything MDC with the remote.
For what it's worth, I found the muting circuitry in the MC2000 to be much better than you normally find in a radio. For a local taxi company, we set the MDC pre-time for all field units at 25ms, to minimize time required before they could begin speaking. The MC2000 mutes that with no problem at all. You'd hear at least half the MDC burst on most base radios in the same scenario in my experience. We also enabled post MDC on the field units, the MC2000 muted them very effectively as well.
If you haven't tried it, you can use the regular programming cable and set-up Hyper Terminal to display the serial output of the remote. This gives a nice time-stamped log of activity, including inhibits & enables sent, with corresponding field radio response. Nice to have, especially if you want to see more than the last 9 ID's which have keyed in.

Not going to happen. Can you imagine the chaos people could cause if their radios could disable others? It will always remain a 'console only' feature.bcooper wrote:Now if only Motorola would add Enable and Disable to the MDC capabilities of the HT1250
