1992-1999 Suburban/Tahoe Ignition-Accessory wire location

Anyone know an "easy" location of a (+) 12V when ignition is turned on? I really don't want to tear up the steering column to get to one. Is there something near the fuse panel in the engine compartment with this?

Vehicle is a 1997 Suburban.

It's not the best place, but if you are just need a small amount, say 1/2 to 1 amp, tap the cigar lighter plug. Most vehicle cigar lighters are on ignition sense.

You can always tap the one going into the radio, I always perferred that over the cig lighter....less chance of anything happening to it....

You didn't say what load this will supply, but, get out your test light or volt meter and find one sufficient to supply your load.

Under the hood: + on ignition system driving a relay or solenoid.
Under the dash: + on HVAC or radio driving a relay or solenoid

Solenoid or relay will be fed power from battery.

on my '99 tahoe the cigar lighter is always on so that wont work. there should be some unused switched taps in the fuse block under the hood. they should be on the right side, 3rd+4th down labeled ign A and ign B. hope this helps.

I use a fuse tap from the side fuse panel (drivers door). There is a small space at the bottom of the fuse block that will allow you to pass some wires thru.

Always put a daub of silicone on these. I see quite a few of them get pulled out from whatever reason. Don't know if it's vibration or someone tugging the wires, but I've seen a number of them do it.
Make sure you stay away from wiper and HVAC fuses, as they sometimes carry noise.

Wipers are NOTORIOUS for that...I've had quite a few problems with that mysef.

I'm trying to hook up my Syntor X9000. Do i have to hook up the green and orange wires to a constant (+) to keep memory (i.e. last volume setting...)? Right now just the main (+) wire is hooked up (fused of course). I was planning on hooking the orange & green to a fuse block that is powered via a 75A relay.
