97-up Jeep Wrangler install ideas or pics

Post by redbeard »

I'm looking to install a few radios (all dash mount) in my Wrangler and would appreciate any advice or pics of installs. I'll probably have a GM300, uniden scanner, and Yaesu ft-2600 at the least. I may need a set of switches and my PA-300 if I join a VFD again soon.

Thanks guys.

That's a ton of radios to put into such a small space.

I've got a 2000 TJ myself, and weep at the supreme lack of space in that thing. Code 3 and I were barely able to get a remote-head Icom 2720 in there.

The best solution for multiple radios is a roof-mounted radio rack. THere are several models, one of them being here: http://www.allmyneeds.com/index.html?ta ... lang=en-us
It attaches to the upper windshield frame and the top rollbar. Seems a little confining to me (I like cruising without the top, plus I'm rather tall and would bump into anything hanging above my head), but it really is the best option for installing a lot of gear in a jeep.

My Icom's got the head mounted on the winshield frame (replaced the bikini top tiedown with the radio bracket), with the radio bolted to the rear of the centre console.

If you're at all interested, I can get some photos for you.

I am looking at the steel console for the mounting of all my desires I have seen the newer ones and they have quite a bit of room

Yeah i'm thinking maybe a combo of the overhead rack, probably the one from Tuffy and a stalk coming up out of the area near the E brake and cup holders. Tuffy has one center console with a lockable area to mount a car stereo in, that may work nicely too.

That would be nice but I don't have a Spectra, I have a GM300. Anyone have the remote mount kit for it they want to part with cheap?

Does the HHCH control lights/siren too? Maybe I would look into one if it's that integrated.
