Motorola Siren (horn control????)

Post by radiouser »

Hello, trooper here with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, have a low band radio in the car, that has the siren patch on the face of it (not seperate), What I was wondering was if there was a way to wire the siren to the horn? I know you would not be able to change the tones, but would be more convient. Thanks in advance.....

PS the radio looks sorta like a maratrac but like I said the siren button are on the actual radio

It really depends on what kind of radio, but most of the Motorola Sirens can have the horn tap button through the VIP connector.

If you let us know what type of radio it is, we can tell you which pins and wires need to go where.

If you're using a systems 9000 head like this one:

without a box like this one hanging off of it: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 3821153119

There should be a box in the trunk like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5704589121 otherwise you're gonna need cables and equipment. SCHP just unloaded a ton of siren boxes at auction. Someone bought them and was trying to get rid of them for $5 apiece on eBay.

Your radio/control head will also have to be programmed to activate those functions.
