EX600 Rotary Knob for channel selection?
I have a fleet of EX600's that I wish to use the rotary knob for channel selection instead of Zone selection. Since all of our channels will be within a single Zone, I have no need for Zone selection, at least not with the rotary knob.
When I try to change this item in Pro6.x the glasses icon appears indicating that this is a read only option and it ignores my attempt to change the function to Channel Selection. It appears that since the EX600 is a single line display radio it defaults the rotary to Zone and will not allow alteration.
Since the rotary has always historically been a channel selector my users are beefing that they have to pull the radio off their belts to change channels with the keypad. This may also be a safety item in public safety uses.
If anyone knows how to get around this I would appreciate it!

EX600 Rotary
I did just that, but, according to the RSS, since the radio is a single line display (vs a multi-line display like an HT1250 or 1550) the rotary control will only allow Zone select.

Simply create multiple zones & choose a different single conventional personality for each. Make sure each zone & matching conventional personality have the same name. It will appear to be a 'channel' selector to the end user. Bit of a pain for the programmer, but no big deal. I've had to do it for earlier version radios.

But then I can't scan across Zones, right?wavetar wrote:Simply create multiple zones & choose a different single conventional personality for each. Why not? The scan lists reference the conventional personalities, not the zones. Should work just fine. I just set-up a scan list in an EX600 codeplug & it allowed me to populate it with any personality I wanted, it didn't care about zones.n9jig wrote:But then I can't scan across Zones, right?wavetar wrote:Simply create multiple zones & choose a different single conventional personality for each. I'm a little confused as to your problem. I have an EX600 archive & it is set for 'channel select', and cannot be changed. According to the CPS help, if it's a fixed 16-channel rotary switch, it defaults to 'channel select'. This should be the case for your EX600 fleet. If it's a continuous rotary, then it defaults to 'zone select'. Are your radios continuous rotary? These factors are why you are getting different responses from people.

Yes, these are Continuous Rotary. This must be the issue. I assumed that you could not scan across Zones, but maybe I will try that if I can't get the rotary to Channel Select.wavetar wrote:Why not? Funny thing though, I have a HT1550XLS (multi-line display) with a continuous rotary that is set to Channel Select, and of course all my HT750's and 1250's in the fleet are set to Channel Select, so I really want to get the fleet consistant.
Thanks for the assistance!

Wierd
We have EX600xls radios in VHF that we have programmed with both version 6.04 and 6.05. We have been able to set our knobs to channel selection. I have never heard of such a thing. I would definitely get a hold of Motorola and see about a firmware upgrade.
Re: Wierd
He has continuous rotary EX600...NOT EX600XLS units. Thus his problem, which the help menu clearly points out. An upgrade to XLS from Motorola is possible, but not neccessary since he can program them as I described & they'll act like all the other radios in his fleet, as far as the end user is concerned.craig wrote:We have EX600xls radios in VHF that we have programmed with both version 6.04 and 6.05.
