ht1000 programming problem

trying to program ht1000 using motorola rib and aftermarket cable. keep getting noise error when l try to read unit. also does anyone know if there are certain keys that must be pushed when turning the unit on to put it into programming mode? any help greatly appreciated.

try doing a search "motorola ht1000" or "ht1000" this has been talked about many times here on the board

Use a slow computer (486 50 Mhz max)

Use a good RIB box

Use a good cable

Then pray when you hit F8

Let me guess...you have a Windows based computer, and are trying to either use the 'reboot into MS-DOS mode' upon shutdown, or the 'F8-command prompt only' upon start-up. I have seen the 'TSR/high noise' error many times in those modes. There are many aspects of Windows which still loads, thus interfering with the COM port.

If this is indeed the case, either use a DOS 6.22 boot disk from here:

http://www.bootdisk.com

Or, if it's Win98, go into the 'C:\Windows' folder and find the 'MSDOS mode for Games with EMS & XMS Support' icon. Double clicking this will reboot your computer into a superior DOS mode which doesn't load any aspects of Windows, and thus gives direct hardware control to the RSS. If a boot disk works for you, then this one will too.

I'm somewhat stupid when it comes to Windows 98 (XP and 2000, no problem...), but is there some way to set the "Game DOS" as the default way of going into dos when you go Start-->Shut Down-->Reboot into MS-DOS Mode ? That'd make life easier, I'd imagine!

I recently bought a ht1000 and Ribless cable(built in). I tried everything I could think of with the newest RSS. Did not work at all. Comes up with "Couldn't open port" error and radio would beep. Took it out to my shop and dug out the oldest PC i could find. Installed an old version of rss and worked flawlessly. My recommendation is to find a "free" pc, boot in dos and use RSS in DOS only. Thanks for all the help here.

What kind of computer were you using (specs, OS, etc) and were you trying to program through a DOS Window or Command Prompt? The latest HT1000 RSS runs perfectly on my DELL 1.7GHz machine, in real DOS.

I tried on a Gateway with win 2k pro using a Dos window. Not exactly sure on the specs but around 1 GHZ with 512 Ram. Got too frustrated with it and thought my cable was not working or the radio was faulty. Also ran out of time. Now that I know that it will work, I am going to try my better PC again booted in DOS perhaps. Not exactly sure of the plan of attack. Now that I know it works, I will do more experimenting. Thanks

Yes, using a DOS window, especially in Windows 2000 & XP (command prompt) is simply not the right way to do it.

Since your computer is Win2K, check the properties of your hard drive to see if it's formatted as FAT32, or NTFS.

If it's FAT32, it's easy, because you can just use a Win98SE boot disk to boot the computer to DOS and you'll be able to run the programs from your hard drive.

If it's NTFS, it's more of a pain, because using a boot disk doesn't allow you to access your hard drive, since the boot disk doesn't understand NTFS.

you can boot the computer with a 98 startup disk and put the ht1000 rss on a floppy too and run it from that. i've done it before and it works, just a little slower starting the program.

I can program HT1000 with RSS and RIB from DOS on a P4 2.4-Ghz machine with no problems. Can do the full Jedi line too including maxed out MTX with all 250 modes (27 blocks). Been doing it for almost two years. Before that, it was on a AMD 1.0-Ghz box. I even boot to DOS from a CD. Whew! You guys must have configuration problems if you can't do that unless you're using some old dinosaur RSS.
