Spectra install on 2003 chevy truck

Post by chuckhab »

I want to install a Spectra in my 2003 chevy 1500HD. How the heck should I get the power cable, and possible antenna cable, through the firewall? I don't see any extra grommets to pull. Any suggestions on where to look?

I ran into the same problem when I went to get my 03 Tahoe. I finally convinced the sales-critter at the dealership that I wouldn't buy the truck (I would have) unless THEY installed power from the battery back to the passenger compartment with circuit breakers at the battery post. Well, believe it or not, I now have 2 #4 wires coming from the battery (breakered at the battery) back to right under the middle row seat behind the driver and an anderson power-pole distribution panel mounted there.

It took the guys who did it about an hour and a half to do it. Hopefully, I can squeeze the speaker cable for a siren speaker through the same hole eventually.

If you look under the dash or fron the hood side of the firewall on the battery (driver side) there is a very nice circular impression in the wall that isn't far from the hood ground strap.

This is a perfect place to use a greenlee hole punch to pop a hole up to 1" dia.

agree with Apco25. On my '03 Tahoe, i found the "dimple" underneath the ground strap and used a 1" greenlee. Make sure to use a grommet!
