What to do with my MT2000...?

Post by trev_ca »

Hi Everyone,

A while ago I traded my fully legit, dealer purchased HT1250 for a MT2000 with a member here on Batlabs... Aside from it having no valid tags, and the problems I'm about to explain, the trade went well, however he's since disappeared...

So wondering how to fix three problems:

1. LCD display is in horrible condition:

This is actually a good picture, sometimes, everything fades out and magically appears.

2. Microphone does not work. When a speaker mic is used - transmit audio works great with no problems.

3. Light does not work period. I've checked the RSS settings, all is well.

Aside from that, radio is in excellent condition.

Just wondering if anyone knows how to fix these problems? I'm guessing a new board shall do the trick?

Any help appreciated!

Before purchasing a new board, I'd first check to make sure that the flex connection is clean and seated properly. If it's dirty or not seated properly, it would explain flaky behavior like that. Also look for damage to the flex ribbon itself as well as all of the connections to the board. If everything is good there too, I'd say it's time for a new board.

I've seen similar problems in a few Jedi's and it has always been a flex ribbon issue. The bottom part where it folds over to go into the connector has a habit of breaking (although you have to look closely).

I'd definitely start there.... Make sure the contacts are clean and that the cable is seated properly in the connector.

A bad flex or poor connector contacts certainly can be the cause of a poor display including no mic audio and the backlight not working. All these items go though the front flex circuit. Perhaps all you need is to have the flex replaced.

If you prove the problem to the flex cable, let me know... I think I have a good used one around here somewhere that I could mail off to ya.

OK,

Thanks for the help everyone so far... I had a look at the flex it's fairly secure. When I run a pin over the flex near the back of the display, the display starts getting all funky.

So I assume, it must be the flex that's at least causing the display error. Now, with 150 contacts or so... How hard would it be the replace the flex?

Or will getting a new board just simply be a plug and play process? Anybody have any boards available?

Cheers

Just purchase a front housing which has all componets and you should be all set to go...
