Final shots of my install

Post by ESDA20 »

Well, here is it. Months of saving up bits n' pieces, preparing for the big day. With the assistance of a good friend, we ran the wiring, installed the console, and had lunch in about 7 hours. It was a good time. I forgot my camera during the actual instal phase, so all you get to see is the end shots. :D

The console is a JottoDesk CC-I from, well, JottoDesk! Two Kenwoods (730/830) are snuggled in tight, with a EF Johnson expected in a few weeks. Only light in the car at the moment is a flatlighter, which you can see plugged in. :D

The install was pretty easy. In comparing Stan's shots of his Police Exec car to mine, it looks like Jottodesk made the console longer to the front. No biggie. It does kind of limit the use of the bottom face plate to cigar plugs or non-multi-use (IE, light switches) items. The console took some wedging to get in, but once we got it under the dash, it fit like a glove.

All in all, for my first install, it didn't go too bad.

The fit of your console looks off, I think they may have sent you the wrong console.

I don't have a photo right now of mine, but the lip on the bottom of your HVAC controls should be flush with the console.

That doesn't look like the CC-I

Here is a post from another person with theirs, see the fit?

You know, that's what I thought too. I double checked all my holes are lined up. The console is set in and screwed in correctly. It has CC-I stamped on it, came in CC-I box, etc. Even the install instructions (which are for the Impala) look like the console I have. Weirdness. I wonder if Jotto changed the design.

I know the front looks slightly off, but the rest of the console contours to the dash perfectly. If it's not an Impala console, I don't know what the heck happened then.

The rubber piece on the top of Stans' console there is actually mounted to the cross piece under the dash. It's weird.

Mine is identical to the above photo in fit and finish, like you say, yours fits properly, perhaps contact Jotto, i've spoken with them, they are pretty good. Call them and give them the URL for this thread so they can see what you are talking about

Aye. I'll send one this weekend and see what the dealio is. My guess is that either someway, I got a -really- wacked out console, or Jotto did change the design. I can't find any other models that resemble the construction of my unit.

update us here on your results, to be honest it looks alot more upright than the one I have, perhaps it's a SUV console.

Unless your Impala is the 9C1, you will have the front bench seat, and yeah, the bottom ends up being covered (it's pretty useless even in my install) can't mount radios in it, heads only, because it angles down

What radios do you own?: APX / Astro 25 / Harris

are you sure that's not a wrongly label TAHOE console?

They make the same upright view angle console for the tahoe now.

I just looked at the "spec sheets" for the Tahoe console. Neither one looks like what mine did before it went in.

The Tahoe ones are flat bottomed to sit on the transmission hump, where as the Impala one (including whatever this thing I have mounted in my car now) has one side hang "lower" on the right then the other to fit over the odd side of the hump.

Very weird.

Definately be interesting to hear what Jotto has to say. Either I got a new model, a prototype, or somebody in the metal shop decided to get funky! ;)

I received a prompt response from Jottodesk (I love their customer service).

The console I have is the new JottoDesk CC-I unit for the Impala. Jottodesk expanded it forward to allow more room and parts. Very cool.

They may have expanded the console, but it sure is not pleasing to the eye.

Can't really tell by the photos, but does the console
obstruct the heater ducts?

I wondered about that too when I first got it. The answer is negative. My feet are still kept warm. :)
