Mot. Director Pager question

Post by ExKa|iBuR »

Hey all;

Is there any way to make a Director II pager receive carrier squelch, like the Minitor II can....or is it semi-easy to convert a DII into an MII?

Thanks :)

Mike,

It can be done......but it aint fun.....

Our chief technician converted one just to see if it could be done. It worked, but it was kinda messy on the decoder board. He used radio shack and others surface mount components. If he had ordered out the surface mount components from Motorola, they would have probably fit a lot better.

Even though it was messy, it worked like a charm, never missed a beat. I carried if as my personal pager for about a year and a half.

The director II has no squelch circuit which makes it different so that there is no monitor except when you push the monitor button.

I did one myself but it was with an old M II that bit the dust so I kind of cheated in a way.

Good luck it is a fun rainy saturday project.

Nice.

Okay, well the reason I'm asking is that I want a simple receiver on a single frequency...I can get a Director II really cheap. I know just getting a Minitor II would be the best solution, but I'm trying to avoid paying 3 times what I can get this other one for.

Sounds like I should just swallow the pill for a Minitor II (or anything really...Minitor 1, 2, 3, 4, 5...it's all good).

What modifications are needed to make this work? Just in case I feel bored. ;-)
