Scanner antenna for VHF?

Post by Brentd2183 »

Hi, looking for a scanner antenna that will get me the best performance in the VHF range, my case 155mhz area. I've had a MONR33 which was ok, more lowband orientated, but im wondering if i know i want a narrow band can i just use a 2way antenna, cut to that length, would that be the very best form of antenna for this case? Thanks.

Use a standard antenna for that frequency range. You will probably be amazed at the improvement over a general scanner antenna. Antenex, Comtelco, Maxrad and others all make very good antennas.

There are numerous folks here on the board who can get you what you want.

Good Luck.

For the best VHF performance, I would go with a 3dB gain 5/8 wave whip. I have them in chrome for $28.15 and black for $37.85. If you want something a little less expensive and smaller in size (about 18") then I would go with a 1/4 wave whip. I have them in chrome for $6.50 and black for $11.45.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Jeff
