maxtrac questions

Post by Lukeharrington »

I just purchased a 32 channel maxtrac. It will be used for public service use in the 42 to 50 range. I had it programmed today by a local shop and all the channels seem to be right. The problem is that I cant get it to scan. I have tried pushing the scan button and tried holding the button down. When doing the latter i get a few beeps. It still does not scan. The priorty light comes on and blinks but I can not pick up another channel. Also the mon light stays on all the time . Should it always be on. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I am not sure if it is or not. i do not have the mic hung though. Can i mount the mic clip onto plastic? or does it have to be grounded?

The mike clip ground depends on the kind of mike you have. On some, they hook the wire to the button on the back and rely on a grounded clip. Others have a spring-loaded center button on the back of the mike that must be depressed by the clip so it makes an internal contact. Others actually insulate the metal button from the part that's flush with the back of the mike itself, and rely on the metal clip to make the connection; grounding isn't necessary.

Try holding the mike button on the back, against a grounded point on the radio and see if the MON light then goes off. Or try shorting the mike button with a screwdriver to connect the two pieces of metal like a metal clip would do. After grounding/connecting the mike button like this, if the MON light doesn't go off, try pressing the MON button on the radio once. If it still doesn't go off, then perhaps your mike doesn't support the monitor function at all.

I find it easier to short the monitor line inside the control head so it never goes into monitor mode unless I press the front panel button.

Thanks for your help bob. I touched the button on the back of the mic to a grounded piece of metal in the car and the mon light on the display goes off. Does this mean it is scanning now? Also how would you suggest grounding the metal clip as there is no metal to mount the clip on. Also while the mon light is off if you push the scan button again another horizontal light appears on the display, what does it mean?

Maxtrac Scan

Make sue that the channels you want to scan are Taged. if they are not taged as a scan channel the scan program will over look them .
Also remember that the radio has scan and prioridy scan .
My two Cents. :D
