MTR2000 Problem

Post by mark102 »

Just installed 2 new MTR2000 UHF repeaters. Programmed the drop out time to 0 as we have 2 repeaters with same freq, different PL. Our system has pre MDC ID w/preamble enabled. After the ID is sent the repeaters would unkey briefly then rekey as if the PL is dropping out for about 1/2 second. Reprogrammed the MTRs to 1 second drop out and no more problem. Only seemed to occur with MT2000 portables. Mobiles OK. The mobiles & portables are programmed to send PL with the MDC ID. Old repeaters were MSR2000s and had no problems. Any thoughts ???

Have you checked the MT2000 portables on a service monitor to see if they indeed send PL continuously with the MDC? I cannot find any setting in the RSS which would affect it one way or the other. Which setting are you referring to in the MT2000 programming?

On the MTR2000, it seems like you have the "analog hold in" set for "carrier & pl/dpl". Perhaps try setting it for "carrier" only. This way it requires PL/DPL for initial keying, but will remain open on carrier. It sounds like this was the way the MSR2000s were set, either that or they just didn't switch states as fast as the MTRs are capable of.

MTR2000 Problem

I'll change to "carrier" & give it a try. It is programmed to "PL/DPL" because of the 2 repeaters but should be OK with the hold-in set to "carrier". It seems the repeaters see the PL on the portables during the preamble but not while the ID is sent. PL output of the portables is constant so I'm not sure what is happening. Thanks.

MTR2000 UHF Repeaters

You should set the PL/DPL parameter to FL/DPL and Carrier Squelch on the MTR2000 Base Station/Repeater and Write it to the station. If you were to program the Squelch function in Carrier Squelch only any noise or unwanted signals would open the receivers and allow the stations to repeat.

I hope you don't have these two repeaters co-located on the same site sitting next to each other because this configuration could have be accomplished with one station and an AUX I/O module.

The MTR2000 Base Station has much faster internal switching time than the older MSR2000 Base Station.

I think if you compare the handheld portable to a mobile set up on the bench with a service monitor you should be able to see the difference of the PL / MDC sequencing between states. It appears to be a handheld problem from the description.
