Need sources for outdoor pole-mount enclosures

Post by nmfire10 »

I'm going to be needing an outdoor weatherproof enclosure for a remote reciever that is being mounted to a telephone pole. It needs to support the standard 19" rack rails and be at least 25" high x 8" deep. Inside will be a TKR-850 (probably), power supply, batteries, PTG-10, etc.

The only supplier out here is Graybar with Hoffman boxes that are insanly expensive. There has got to be something more reasonable out there.

eBay at it's finest:
Me: "What exactly is a 900Mhz UHF CB?"
Them: "A very nice CB at 900Mhz speed!"

Call up your local cable TV MSO and see if they have a power supply enclosure around. Or you could call up Alpha and see if they'll sell you just the box, without any guts. Perfect size for what you want to do and very easy to mount to a telephone pole.

You could also call Coast CATV supply (800.800.2770) and ask them the price on item #ALP-P-PWE.

What radios do you own?: FMR80D and a Motrac with Scan

We used their cabinets in the past with excellent results.

As far as the enclosures, you will get what you pay for. The prices from DDB are probably not that far off from a lockable Hoffman enclosure.
Just make sure you get something NEMA rated so that you don't ruin your radio equipment

Bob, good point. I'm pretty sure I might know one! :)

I know I sound like I'm being cheap and that's not good concidering this needs to be protected from the elements. Something just doesn't sit right when I see a metal box that costs more than the radios going inside it.

Hell what's it cost? If it that much you could have one made.
