Mobile Vision Question

Hey folks:

Anybody out there building their own lapel mics for the Mobile Visions?

A customer of mine hit me up on a source to pick up cheap lapel mics.

I told him to check with Mobile Vision but I don't know if he did. There doesn't appear to be too much to the mic. Any good sources for similar items or supplies (cheap) to build your own?

His officers are pretty hard on equipment and the tucking of those cords inside of shirts, around belts, etc. just wears 'em out quick.

Any ideas. He needs about a dozen at a super reasonable price. If they came with tie clips, that's better yet.

Your chances of getting away cheap with a factory-made product are not good. Most of the wireless beltpacks will accept any decent condenser/electret mic as long as you make the proper pin connections for the balanced audio and phantom power. The best pricing for a decent unit these days comes from Audio Technica for about $55 dealer cost. Similar units can be had from Telex, AKG, and many others.

The problem with ALL mics of this type is that the cable won't take a beating. Aerobics instructors and anyone else who uses the units on a daily basis have the same problem.

You can buy the mic direct fromMV for $25 with the lapel clip. The VHF transmitters are decent, but range can be diminished due to the fact that the mic cord is part of the antenna.

If his MV's are system 7 or newer, he can upgrade to VLP, this is a DSS 900 Mhz mic, it does not use the cord as an antenna, it is built into the unit. you can also use the short 9" cord with that unit as well, plus.... it has a built in mic for backup use should the wiried mic fail.

Based on the equipment that he has, why short change the department with cheap parts, I would recommend the factory replacement mics. I base this soley on the fact that this is a public safety department. You wouldn't use a "Nick" radio in public service, would you?
