S-COM To Launch NEW Repeater Controller

Post by ASTROMODAT »

Can't wait!!

To All Listmembers,

``The 7K Is Out of Production. All 7Ks have now been sold. Watch this
space for the announcement of its successor!"

That's true. Dave updated the website with that announcement yesterday. He
and I agreed that we're too close to having the new design finished to build
another run of 7Ks.

7K Main Boards, Display Cabinets, and Speech Synthesis Modules are gone. I
have two Telephone Interface Modules in stock, and of course, Dave at Vyex has
Digital Audio Boards for the 7K in stock.

Now that we're at the start of a new year, it might be wise to see where
we've been and where we're going.

S-COM became a full-time operation in May, 1985, so we'll be celebrating 20
years in business in a few months.

With some 6,000 controllers sold into the aviation, railroad, commercial
two-way, and ham markets over that time, we've lasted a lot longer than most
companies in this business. I attribute that fact mainly to our loyal
customers.
But without our design team (Virgil, DaveM, Scott, DaveK, BobD, Kevin, and
others who feed us ideas, suggestions, comments and criticism), we wouldn't
have anything to sell. We've also found good suppliers and subcontractors who
turn out top-quality PC boards, cabinets, and assembly services. I thank you
all for your efforts and for your business, and I wish you all the best in
2005.

The controller markets have changed due to many things, including shifts in
hobby interests, the shift in radio technology to digital modes, the economic
picture, the 9/11 tragedy.

We think there's sufficient reason to stay in those markets, including the
fact that we really enjoy what we do.

So although the "K" series is now out of production, we're working hard on
the next-gen models. Our day jobs and pursuits slow us down a bit (for
example, one of our design team members is currently in China and reports
having
snake stir-fry recently), but we're currently debugging prototypes of the first

model (a true three-port controller) and are making good progress.

I'll be sending updates to this list frequently that describe our new
controller philosophies, and the new multiport designs in particular. Please
feel
free to give us feedback on any issues.

Thank you for your support!

73,
Bob
