I would love one too... There are some many ideas and products about this, and I have never seen a good "guide" to this topic, for commercial stuff, not the wires or echo link.

There was some chatter however about the digital acoustics unit, and another idea of using a VPN router and being able to break that out into phone lines to use as remotes.... I don't know...

VOIP Info

Post by RFdude »

Are you asking about dispatch VOIP? Or telephone service (Digital PBX)? Just do a google search for VOIP and another keyword to narrow down your search. For instance "VOIP PHONE" will get you all the variants for a desktop terminal. You can also try this in ebay to see a variety of products. Then you dig futher and learn on your own. VOIP TRAINING, VOIP GATEWAY, SIP, etc.

http://www.asterisk.org/ is open source LINUX IPBX that is very well documented on line. This is FREE software, just add server and interface cards. For this reason, it seems to have the best explainations about all the possible PBX like features, voice mail, etc.

Good luck!

Lets not even call it voice dispatch... I could also care less about telephone service.

What I think the intent of the question might have been, and what my reply to his question was is VOIP strictly relating to RADIO.

Some questions arise such as HOW TO and what to use:

1) Remote base thru VOIP
2) Seting up a remote reciever (i.e. spectra tac, doug hall, astro tac) thru VOIP.
3) remote control of doors, signals, sirens, tranmitters etc. thru VOIP...

some one should try to make a good giude and/or sticky if this post gets off the ground..

Thanks, Rob
