DEK/Switch box setup???

Post by dfc2 »

I have a DEK and the similar looking box that allows the activation of the light bar. I have the Siren for the Spectra, I need to know what cabling I need to hook everything up. The siren comes with the proper cables. but what cables do I need to hook up the DEK ( It's just a small patch cable with ends like the mic correct?) and what is needed to hook up the light bar switch box? The back of it looks like a DB25 connector? is there any other hardware needed? ( relays etc?)

What radios do you own?: I can't enter that much....

Check out this link: http://www.batlabs.com/x9000.html
Scroll down a little from the top, and you should find the pinout of the DB25 connector on the back of the switchbox. The switches in the switchbox are only rated for 1 amp. If your load is bigger than that, you will need a relay. The cable for the siren DEK has a VIP connector on the control head end, and a "Mic" connector on the DEK end. I can't tell you what the part number is, but I'm sure someone else here can.

The wildcard box has always had an elusive "relay matrix" that most people jsut build themselves. If you follow the pinouts on the X9000 page it'll give you what you need to make it work with your own relays. The WildCard DEK Switchbox is a low current switch setup.. I wouldn't put much current through it. Just enough to throw a relay or 2. It was mentioned in the For Sale forum (since I was looking for a relay matrix) to use the Federal Signal/Unitrol relay units that Gall's is selling.

I bought the 175 amp version about 15 minutes ago... when I get it and get it hooked up I'll report on how it works. But another member here has already advised that it works well.

For te Siren Dek it is the cable that was described by kf4sqb. No part number here... but you can probably cut a mic cable and get a VIP connector to put that together if needed.

Jaymz, any update? I'm kicking around the idea of picking one up.

Or has anyone found a place to buy these besides Gall's? I really hate to give those guys my money, just on principle alone. It would also be nice to have a price comparison vs Galls.

Update....

The FedSig/Unitrol board that Gall's is selling... is NOT.. I repeat.. is NOT a relay board. It is a "Power distribution center" with a gun lock relay. Bogus... big time bogus.

I feel like I wasted my money actually. I am going to call Gall's tomorrow for a return tag and get my money back and build my own relay matrix.

Jaymz,
What's the Fed Sig part number for the board you got? Looking on their website, I found manuals for three different units: 305, 309, and 318. It looks like the 305 and 309 are strictly power distribution, with the possibility of a couple ignition switched terminals. Because Gall's doesn't use the Fed Sig part numbers, it's hard to tell, but from the description it looks like you may have the 309.

I think the 318 is the one you want. That's the 430 amp version originally linked to. Gall's seems to infer that they're the same unit with different capacities. In reality, they're completely different units.

Here's the link for the manuals I found: http://www.fedsig.com/tech_support/inst ... ?cat_id=15

PDC-309A is the FedSig part number. When I asked at Gall's I was told this unit would do just that. Obviously Gall's has no idea what they are talking about... AGAIN.

But nicely they are refunding my money and taking the part back. I got a regular switch panel that works just nicely...

The manual for the 318 is right here:
http://www.fedsig.com/products/docs/ins ... 318-00.pdf

The 318 still DOES NOT provide relays for every switched circuit on the board, as visible on the page 5 schematic. The CODE3 switched input on connector 2 triggers relays K2 & K2 (mislabled?) which power pins 1-4 on connector 1 at 20A each (80 amp total). The balance of the pins on Connector 2 are straight powered thru the with fuse (not powered off the B+ main) with the exception of Pin 9 which feeds to Connector 4 for the gun timer (offboard timer relay).

After looking at the schematics more carefully, it looks like you're right. I was looking at the board layout as opposed to the schematics. On a board like that, it only makes sense that if you're going to have an input, you have the output on a relay. I don't see any sense in having inputs on a power distribution module if they're only fused to an output.

Farking stupid. That's probably why I haven't been able to find one anywhere other than Gall's.

Maybe I'll just say to hell with it and go buy a Touch Tek

You might want to take a look at my topic in the General Forum regarding my design for a basic 10 circuit relay control box to interface with standard low current switch boxes like the DEK Wildcard. (wow that was one hell of a runon sentence)
