Does the Mitrek UHF make an ok repeater or are there better routes such as the Master II? I have a Mitrek but I read of problems when seperating the receive and trans.

Mitrek repeater? Can it be done?

I have built almost a dozen of them now, no problems whatsoever.
I have one on eBay for sale right now, though the pictures don't really show the mods off.

Duct tape is like the force, it has a dark side and a light side and it holds the universe together.

I thought a Mitrek repeater was called a MSR2000....(sorry, couldn't help being a smart-a$$)
Anyway, they can be duplexed and they have very nice audio. I have never done one, but one of the local guys uses them for his duplexed links. A Mastr II might be easier for a first timer. I can duplex one in about 10 minutes.

It is very easy to do. In general 1 out of 5 shows signs of desense. Make sure you run some air over the heatsink. You can some pics at http://www.k6sra.org/modmitrek.html You will have no problems if you use split radios of course.
Having said all that, I have moved to Maxtracs due to size and ease of programming.

Phrawg, I seem to remember that you sugested using two units not so much for simplicity, but for redundancy. If the transmitter and receiver in each radio are both aligned and ready to go, even though one unit is the repeater receiver and the other is the repeater transmitter, if you have a failure - receiver or transmitter - you just swap the drawer units.
Great idea, and the Mitreks are affordable enough that cost is not an issue.
