I picked this control head up in a trade recently. Looks like a standard MCS2000 M3 control head. Popped it on one of my MCS2000s, and it worked OK - for the most part.
The volume control doesn't correctly control the audio out. When I turn the knob, it doesn't change the volume. Turn the knob, power the radio off then on again, and it comes on at the appropriate volume level.
When I power the radio off, the buttons and display stay backlit too. The only way to turn them off is to cut the power to the radio.
Radio functions properly with a known good head. Problem follows the control head.
Sooo... IS the FLN2267A an appropriate control head for the MCS? If so, any input on the problem?
FLN2267A on an MCS?

anything that is "FLN" - in my experience... is made in israel. any MCS that was destined for the US 2-way market SHOULD NOT have a FLN # control head.
FLN = specialty stuff.... and i bet what you have is some special control head for an MCS destined for service in a MOSCAD alarm reporting system.
for instance, the astro desktop diu = FLN XXXX parts all over it... and guess where it was made....israel.

Thanks Doug. It very well could be.
The legends on the buttons suggest trunking. The entire keypad is soft-touch, and the emergency button is bright orange.
Liiks like I may have gotten effed.
If I can't get it to work, anyone want it? I guess I'm now in the market for a good, working model 3 control head.

It might well be a rear control head. I've got a rear control head on my Model 3 VHF. The volume knob doesn't do anything, you can't program through it, and when you turn off the power from the knob, the button backlight stays on. To adjust the volume, set it to what you want it to be, power down then repower, and you should be just fine. Just a suggestion. It drove me nuts with mine until I found it I had a rear control head! Good luck.
Final edit: I just re-read your message about the volume knob. Since it works that way, and with the lights staying on, I'd be willing to bet 100 to 1 that you have a rear control head. Try programming through the front mic port. If it doesn't work (but does through the accy jack), I'd be willing to put money on that fact that you have a rear head.
But as I said - if you are looking to get rid of it, please PM me, I'd be quite interested.

MCS control head
Usually the control head has a silk screened message saying rear on the back of the housing if its a rear control head. If the silk screening is missing its much harder to tell.
The programming for the control head is done at factory level and according to my Motorola sources can not be field modified.
One sure symptom of the rear control head is the deactivated volume control. I guess having two different controls competing is too much for the processor to handle.
