Internal Interference causes radios to break squelch
We've got a number of Mid 80s GM 2500 & 3500 and on 2004 Ford F350 that intermittantly cause the radios to generate noise (sounds like squelch noise) and the drivers are not able to adjust the squelch knob to quiet it. We are running mostly Motorola Micors and 1 Maratrac in the vehicles with this problem. We are low band (42-46MHz) with CSQ. Some vehicles have the old Motorola whip antennas and some have Maxrad antennas mounted on an "L" bracket on the front fender. The problem is so bad that most of the drivers end up just turning the radio off. Of course when we get there to check it out, it never acts up. Have any of you run into this problem? What have you done to correct it? Any suggestions (oh yeah, the upgrade from the 1950's radio system has been suggested several thousand times)?

Inline filters for RF interference
Has anyone had any luck with using the inline filters on the power leads to stop RF interference from causing squelch to break and reduce radio performance?
