link radio

Post by jim »

What's a good choice for a UHF link radio. I need a UHF link to go about 3 miles from a satellite receiver to the repeater. Less than 5 watts with Yagis will be used.

Is a standard mobile (CM200 or CDM750) with a cooling fan running at about 3 watts okay or will I need something more?

RELM and Maxon make very nice little link radios. The RELM has very flat audio response, but the Maxon is a bet better built. I have the RELM radios on links for a voter that pass PL and the Maxons on remote controlled railroad switches.

Are these going to be on the air continuious with a status tone, or only when there is traffic?

Me: "What exactly is a 900Mhz UHF CB?"
Them: "A very nice CB at 900Mhz speed!"

Hello , I have several voting site's, I use Cdm Mobiles running at 1 watt, They work great , although in some case's I have had too polarize Antennas in a horizontial plane , getting into other voting systems as far as 70 miles away... Good Luck

A General Electric voter????

Can't go wrong there. We have both GE and Motorola comparators, the GE units sound better.

PM me for some details on how I did RF links on my GE voter.

Voters on three different repeaters here in Colquitt County, Georgia are using UHF M1225 turned down to app. 1 watt, over a path of about 12 miles. Small Yagi at the satelites, and an omni verticle at the repeater sites. They are currently installing a voter on a fourth repeater here, and are using one of the "CM" series radios, but I don't recall which.
