Our department is on the verge of taking over the maintenance responsibility for our 2 zone SmartZone system from Motorola, as the warranty period is expiring. We've asked Motorola for a list of suggested spares, but I'd like to get some suggestions from the real world.
The system is 2 zones, Quantars (130 of them), and 6 Gold Elite consoles. M wants around $230k (yearly) for the "Advanced Replacement Service" for the parts, which seems ridiculous to me. For that kind of money I could buy a boatload of spares.
What I'm wondering is: Is the Adv. Repl. service worth it? How much is a repair for a Quantar PS or other common-fail items? What are the critical spares that we should have on hand for the stations, CEB, controllers, and consoles?
Any input is greatly appreciated!

I would suggest a couple of spare power supplies and P.A.'s plus a controller board for the Quantars, 1 C.I.E. and a headset jack or two for consoles, a few C.E.B. boards. You might also think about repairing your Quantar P.A.'s-sometimes it's a just a bad solder joint on a jumper or fan connector intermittent-saves $1250 flat rate fix if you go that route.

You will also need a slew of Master site spares.
Embassy cards (timer, ZAMI, AMB cards), Embassy power supplies, Zone controller spares, Zone server spares, channel bank spares, DIU DBB, Network spares (routers/switches). This is a fairly standard list that Motorola should be able to supply, if the system did not have master site spares as part of the original sale.
