So I bought an HT1250...

...and it's definitely a 128-channel radio. Box sez: AAH25KDH9AA6AN HT1250 136-174 1-5W 128 CH FLK. The software version is R05.04.00, and the (M) MOTOROLA emblem on the front is a recessed decal, not printed ink as I was told to avoid.

I took the radio out of the box an hour ago and I'm still grinning. It's got more features than I can shake a stick at. The clock, signal strength meter, battery meter, reminder alarm, etc. are all more than I really needed, but hey. Cool features nonetheless and fun to play with. Now I just have to get this sucker programmed (first time free) with 100+ channels!

Day programs the local NOAA WX freq. for audio demo on new radios, and while the quality is only slightly noticeably lower than that of my HT1000's, it is nothing to complain about. At full volume, with and without an RSM, I hear no distortion. I have a 99-channel MT1000 that had the 7-inch VHF antenna. I swapped this with the 1250, since I read previously that this improves reception over the stock helical. (It did NOT come with the tapered crap.) The MT1000 is such a good receiver anyway, I figured the slightly shorter 1250 antenna would make no difference.

I think this will make a very nice portable. Like I said above, it won't see much use. I plan on taking extremely good care of it, and what use it sees will be close range. "Sucking in" signals won't be necessary, so gain and whatnot isn't an issue. The adjustable 1-5W will fit my MURS use perfectly. At the railroad, needless to say I'll be close enough to hear all.

The only question I have about this new 1250 regards the DTMF pad. Are the tones programmable to last as long as the key is held, as per the HT1000? I really appreciate all the feedback you guys left, and I'm sure a few of you who had bad experiences with Waris are grumbling at my decision but for a radio that's just going to be boppin' along in the seat of my Explorer, I'm really impressed. Besides, next paycheck may just bring a PR1500 with it.

Hi GP38,
can you tell me the difference between the printed ink MOTOROLA decal and the indented MOTOROLA plate on the front of the portable. I have just purchased a brand new GP339 with the indented MOTOROLA plate decal and had noticed that there is a stamp ink decal like the pictures on the brochures. By the serial number, my portable was made in 2004.
Thanks Anthony.

Forgot to mention, I love this radio. It has far more features than I need, and I find the sensitivity to be equal to the best of them. And I have had a few other brand top end portables.

Whoa! First off, I didn't mean to start a brand new thread regarding this matter. Obviously hit new topic instead of post reply. Anyway, mods please delete if necessary.

My understanding is that the earlier HT1250's (and thus, those with firmware/software issues) had (M) MOTOROLA printed on the plastic above the speaker in white ink. The later models have (M) MOTOROLA in the same manner as the HT1000, MT1000, GP300, etc. A sticker in a shallow indentation to keep it from peeling off.

hello,
what is a PR-115?
CONGRATS on the new radio..
I have 2 ht1550's coming shortly and like you, are very excited I come from systems saber vintage with all the trimmings so i think now is the time for a new pair of radios I have done lots of research(with the help of this site) and find thet they will do the job.
They will be very different than what i'm used to and thats what i'm hoping.
after finally unloading my twin maxtrac's and replacing them with twin cdm's this will compleate my radio buying for a while now.
Some say it will be a step backward but i don't need a XTS(would like to have one though, but don't need it)
Good luck!

Since no one else bit on it, I'll try to answer. Although I am playing with a HT1550 XLS instead of a HT1250 they should be the same. On my 1550 I have to have Keypad enabled to "Hot Keypad" in the CPS under Radio Configuration>Basic. The codeplug I have for a HT1250 full keypad has the same option, so I would assume they operate the same way. Sorry I don't have the radio here to try, it is a friends radio. When using DTMF I have to hold the PTT down and dial the digits while the PTT button is held down, and the tones TX as long as I have both buttons held down.
