DIU upgrade to encryption in SmartZone 4.1 system

Post by Alan »

I was looking for information on what is involved in the physical installation of an encryption module in an existing DIU on a SZ 4.1 system.
Motorola will supply the module, I need to install and program.

What is involved? I assume a disassembly, plug in module.
Activate with RSS? Flash upgrade? PROM change?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Can't help, but I'm in the same boat (except mine is a conventional boat). We had a DIU for "backup", only to find it was ordered without the encryption module. Suddenly, the "backup" isn't tying in a new channel, its collecting dust until we cough up the $$$ for the module. I'd be interested in seeing just what it takes myself, but it seems like it should be fairly straightforward (famous last words).

The encryption cartridge just plugs in. It obviously has to be turned on in the RSS. It supports PID and CKR multikey as appropriate to your system.

If you are using multikey in Smartzone - you will probably end up using PID mode.

If Motorola engineering determines that your DIU needs a firmware upgrade - the kit comes with new PROMS.
