Dual Band Antennas

Post by mark577fd »

I am looking for 2 dual band antenna's to cover VHF and UHF. I have a hieght requirement that prohibits me from using standard dual band antenna's. Stiko has a very flexable VHF tuneable antenna. Does anyone have any ideas. I have already sheered off 2 of the foldable antenna's so they are out.

Thanks

You sheared off foldable antennas? How little room are you dealing with, and what are you trying to drive into with these antennas on the vehicle?

That or i was going to suggest a fold over on the trunk to get it lower.

Ugh...well..

Dual band antenna's, at least if your going to use for 2M/440 I would recommend the 13" (I think its actually a little shorter) Diamond antenna.

I picked one up at Dayton to replace the big brother verison of it on the Suburban. When its -30 with the windchill and blowing snow, folding the antenna really sucks.

This antenna is actually shorter than my VHF antenna cut for 155.

Low, low dualband mobile antenna...

Antenna World in Florida sells a dual band antenna with an NMO base that is about 16 inches overall and, best of all, it's under $20 and it works great. My Outback is a relatively tall car and with this antenna I never hit the sprinkler pipes in parking garages.

I've got a Maldol EX-104BNMO on the roof of my Saturn VUE and haven't had any height problems. It too is shorter than a standard 1/4 wave VHF whip.

I've used both a Maxrad MAX150/450 and a Comtelco A1131 with execllent results. Both are about the length of a VHF 1/4-wave with a coil in the center.

Thanks for the response so far. For more clairfication. It is a Chevy Astro Van. The door height is 7 feet. The issue is a small ramp at the door entrance that gives me 4 inches of clearance at the hightest point between the van and the header beam. The antenna that was sheered off was "accidently" {that is what the wife said} left in the extended position and the antenna was mounted on a Diamond mult-position mount on the back door of the van. I have a larson shorty dual band on the other side on a diamond mount with a spring load and so far so good but I hate the door antenna mounts. Will keep checking back. Thanks for the response so far.

What about a L-bracket on the front fender? No real height restrictions there.

Unless you don't like being bombarded with RF 12" from your face. :D
