I AM TRIING TO PROGRAMMING MY HT1000 RADIO AND MY RIB WILL NOT READ THE RADIO AND I KNOW MY RIB IS WORKING

WHEN I TRI TO READ THE RADIO A MASSAGE COMES UP WITH THE
RADIO TURND OFF
NO RADIO OR RADIO MALFUNCTIONING
RADIO BATTERY LOW
POOR CONNECTION BETWEEN RADIO AND RIB
RIB MALFUNCTIONING

I KNOW MY RIB IS WORKING BECAUSE I JUST PROGRAMMED A MT1000

CAN ANY ONE HELP THINKS

Start with a fresh battery, disconnect all cables from thr RIB, & PC ..do a defrag on the DOS pc... try it again....
have another radio to read/write to?
check all contacts are clean.......

I was told to try it in the dos mode but I do not know how to go into DOS with XP

You need to be running true DOS (NOT the XP DOS emulator) for the HT-1000. My experience is that you also need a relatively slow computer for that particular radio as well. The HT is a pretty finicky radio to program.

download you some dos 6.2,use that it works for me i use a 1g laptop and have no problem doing the ht1000,if ya need any help pm me and ill give you a hand

There was a thread about this some months ago where the answer suggested was to go into one of the menus, hit F9 and change something from "auto" to "manual."

Anyone remember that one and have further info? Might help the poster.

I've had excellent results programming JEDI, GENESIS (HT-600/MT-1000), and Kenwood TK series, radios using a Windows based P-III with just a DOS bootup floppy disk running in DOS. If I need to run a CPS program to program a WARIS, etc. radio, I just leave the boot disk out of the floppy drive and the PC will boot Windows.

I believe your problem may be using windows XP, I have had problems with the com port not communicating with the program while running XP. Try WIN98 or lower.

I TOOK THE RADIO APART AND CLEAN THE FLEX CABLE AND REBOOTED THE PC WITH DOS 6.2 AND I NOW CAN READ AND PROGRAM MY HT1000

THINKS TO ALL FOR THE HELP

My experience served me right with the mt1000 and the gp300....The pins from the battery, and or the rib that are connected to the radio...especially the radio part of it,.. I always use my finger nail to scrape the grease/dirt from the flat connections on the radio itself..Don't forget that the battery connections are different from the programming connections from the RIb....

Hi All,
After doing a search here on Batlabs, I could not find an applicable answer to my version of this dilemma. I quoted the above post as it is the identical display my friend has when he tries to program my HT1000's. This same computer does MT1000's, P200's, HT50's etc. flawlessly every time without fail. Here are the details. The computer is a Texas instruments 486DX2 50 Mhz with the program running in "Command Prompt" mode. The rib is an aftermarket job, but as stated works perfectly with every other radio it has been used for except both of my HT1000's. For cables, he has a homemade 3 pin RIB type cable and, one of those KAWA ribless 4 pin cables. For the most part, when either cable is used, the above message comes up. I say for the most part, because, on a couple of occasions when using the homemade RIB type, both radios did work. The batteries arrived with the radios used,but, one of them will power a radio for several hours after being charged. I am new to HT1000's and, don't know much about their operating characteristics. The light is green momentarily when the radio is turned on and, is orange when transmitting. On the frequencies I can use they have in them now, they work great. They are UHF versions. I have ordered some new batteries which haven't arrived yet. Would they make enough of a difference,or, is something else at play here? One more thing, the software is the "1998" version. As has been said on here repeatedly, running in Command Prompt mode is asking for trouble. The software is designed to run in pure DOS only.

Try running it under a DOS 6.22 clean boot and see if you still have a problem.

k2hz is right !!! you need a slow pc (no pentiums) 386/486 max.....
In true DOS.... check your connections, clean the contacts with a pencil eraser..

HT1000 RSS, if it is a recent enough version, will run on a Pentium class computer or higher.

I've programmed quite a few HT1000's on a PII machine of mine...altho the MT2000 RSS always had to be ran on something slow. Oh well...mt2k CPS does for now!

Thanks to all who responded. My friend tells me that Command Prompt is pure DOS the way it is set up. When the computer is started up, he "F8's" out of the start process before the Windows 95 can kick in. A DOS menu comes up showing 5 possible selctions which have to be made by the operator. The computer won't do anything until the selection is made. He further showed me via a memory display that windows is not working in any form. If he opens up a DOS window while running "95", the same memory test shows windows running even though it is supposed to be DOS. Is there a command that can be typed in to verify it is pure DOS? Thanks again

make a DOS boot floppy disk, boot from that = pure dos

Take a empty floppy. In Windowz "My Computer", right click on the floppy drive icon. Select "Format Disk", then check the "Make MS-DOS Startup disk". After it's done, you can restart your computer and boot into true DOS at that point.

Be advised though, DOS doesn't recognize NTFS file system, so you can either use another floppy disc for your RSS, or create a partition on your hard drive in FAT32 format.

Problem solved! Thanks to all who responded to the dilemma. Here's what happened. Please keep in mind I'm NOT a computer expert,so, this may sound redundant to some folks who are. I just wanted to post what ended up helping out myself and, my friend. Another friend who know DOS fairly well made up a DOS 6.22 Boot Disk as many here on Batlabs suggested. The computer did indeed start up in MS-DOS 6.22! WE HAVE LIFTOFF! Or, so we thought. However those *&%@!~" HT1000's still wouldn't read! My DOS friend then went further into his own DOS machine to look for differences. It turns out 2 files weren't on the boot disk that his machine used. They were the "high mem" and the "config sys" files, whatever they are. Now those same stubborn HT1000's read/write fine every time! Now before some folks start telling me that those files should have been there in the first place, I remind all that I'm NOT an expert and, also just a messenger here! Please don't shoot me! I just want to pass this experience along as it may help someone else. Thanks again to all who repsonded and, steered us in the right direction.

I routinely program Jedis from the dos prompt(reboot in DOS mode) with Win98SE, and never had a single problem.

Panasonic toughbook CF-25, 64MB main memory, but with the IR port and it's associated IRQ disabled!

Com port settings in RSS default to Com1.

You already solved your problem, but this may also be of some help to you as well.
