Whelen Siren Horn Ring Problem

Post by Cheeko »

Hi Guys

Quick question just installed a whelen alpha siren onto the horn ring on a volvo that is perm 12v live and neg side switched

Was working fine on horn transfere and horn what we did was to throw a relay in that was on the output of the horn unit and only triped when the switch was closed to ground out the circuit so the relay triped out and put 12v+ to siren transfere

now we have siren ok on horn ring but no horn I may have just missed the obvious when putting this in but how would you guys put it in I am persuming that if I put it straight onto the horn then with it having a perm 12v+ present it would auto cycle all the time or just stay off or am I missing it alltogether lol

Anyone help me out here got to go and look at another volvo with the same fault but dont know what the siren is or how its done on that not one of my jobs

All the best

Bloody hell.

I think your keyboard may be broken. Apparently, every punctuation key has failed. You might want to get that looked at right away. Try posting again when you get your keyboard repaired.

There's many ways to do it but I need to know when the horn ring transfer is enabled. Is it supposed to transfer when the slide switch is on? A button is pressed? What wires are provided going to the horn circuit? Unitrol provides two wires. Once I have that info from you, I'll post the correct solution.

Hi Huys

The way I have it wired at the moment is there is 12v going into the horn unit and then on the wire comeing off of this I have put it through the trip side of the realy then the other side of the trip going back into the vehicle horn system. That way the relay will only magnitise when the horn button is pushed and the circuit grounded out. The power is straight 12v supply from battery and output upto horn ring transfer wire on the whelen alpha.

The siren is only operational when a switch is activated and then the horn pushed, then with every other push of the horn it changes tone.

Up till recently the Horn was working fine then just quite it might be the horn thats my first thing to check but just wanted to see how others fitted the sirens into a 12v live horn ring as nothing was mentiond in the instructions when we fitted it.

Thanks guys hope that helps
