XTL-5000 Consolette to CEB

Post by 5-sides »

I had the distinct pleasure of connecting an XTL-5000 consolette to a Gold Elite console thru the CEB. Having done this with Spectra consolettes, I figured it would be a piece of cake. Of course, I was wrong. I programmed the XTL consolette with a multi-site P25 trunk system, and made sure it was ready for tone remote operation. Upon connecting it to the CEB, the XTL would reset itself if I had more than one zone in it. Once I figured that out (no thanks to Mother M), I still couldn't transmit. I could Rx all day, change talkgroups, but not TX. Silly me, I had configured the Centracom Database Manager so that the base station capabilities included ASTRO. Who would have thought that a digitally trunked XTL wouldn't be ASTRO? Of course, having multiple zones was no problem with the Spectras, either. Hope this helps avoid problems for someone else. I scratched my head so many times on this one my toenails got cleaned.

One other thing I forgot to mention, during my testing, I hooked up an MC1000 tone remote so that I could check my progress easier. I got everything straight on it, then had to figure out the Tx problem when I connected to the CEB.
