Looking for some help guys. My customer has asked me to install a module that he can flip a switch and remove his keys from te ignition, similar to a car starter. The car starter in the vehicle wil only allow the vehicel to run for 15 minutes. He said the local pd has these in all there cars.
Has anyone seen one of these ? I checked galls and a few others, but didn't see anything.

I've seen a few commercial vehicles with nothing more than a toggle switch to bypass the ignition switch on/run position. All it does is make the connection that the ignition switch does.
For example, with the vehicle running, and one wants to take the keys get out and lock the vehicle, you flip the toggle switch to the on position, then turn the ignition switch to off, which also locks the steering wheel, and then you can remove the keys and lock the vehicle leaving it running.
A tow truck owner near me has it setup like this so he can leave the diesel idling and ready to go when its super cold out in the winter time. Or to leave it running while running in a store to get something, etc.
Just wire a toggle across from battery to the on/run position of the ignition switch, don't forget to fuse the supply to the switch.
With my van i have a key ring seperator so i can take the keyless entry remote and everything other than the ignition key with just a push of the release button. Then i just get out and hit lock on the remote and walk away. Sure, this leaves the key in the ignition, but the vehicle is locked which will deter the "joyriders" out there. A determined thief can get past a vehicles locks anyway!

yeah..they do exist... they're designed to be able to charge tha battery/run lighting for extended periods of time with the officer away from the vehicle without risk of theft,basically there is a switch that provides + to the ignition,and a relay,that when the brake pedal is pushed..it disconnects the + from the ignition side,thus killing the engine(in event of a theft attempt)..none that I know of have timers..although a 555 driving a transistor/relay would be very easy to implement.. total install time should take no more than 30 mins to an hour......more obviously if you need to DESIGN the 555 circuit...
