Upcoming Install**Need Help

Post by KuhnElectronics »

Any ideas before I sit down with the chief of this FD and spec out the lights/siren.

Will for sure get a ht750 VHF, planning on roof mount for antenna..

It will be used for light rescue and medical first response.

What would you reccomend for lights and locations?

I am planning on LED's and strobes all the way...

First, resize that pic!

Depending on the budget, I would go with a Whelen Freedom bar, and remote LEDs. On the utility body itself, you can cut and drill everywhere.

On the utility body you could throw a couple of 500 series lightheds in the center section. On the rear you should be able to fit some 400 series heads back there too. All you need are 4 screw holes and 1 small cable hole for each light head. Easy work. I did a whole bunch of lights for a buddy on a similar utility body.

If you really wanted to go all out, you could also put in flush mount lights above the front tires, just don't screw it up :)

Beware: If you're planning to surface-mount LEDs, the Whelen 500-series Smart Linear-LEDs (whew) can not be panel-mounted, as the available flange is too shallow. This was demonstrated to me today, as I was trying to square a quote away for the lighting/console on my new truck.

So, I'm ending up with 400-series duplex Linear 6 (a la Talon) lamps with remote flasher, 500-series TIR6 lamps with internal flasher, and 600-series Linear-LED lamps with internal flasher.

I'll second the Freedom bar. The Liberty looks great on a smaller vehicle (CV, etc.) but the Freedom fits in better with larger equipment.

I would also look at a Traffic Advisor to go on the back (I'd buy the lightbar without a T/A, then add the T/A as a separate unit for more punch.)

Yes, I am good at spending money, thank you.

I second the freedom bar. Maybe even a LFL Liberty, but I think the higher profile bar (freedom) would give a more aesthetically pleasing look to the truck since it's so big.

maybe hideaways in the front turn signals. Stay clear, colored sucks, and you probably know that already.

4 TIR3's in the grille area, possibly one mounted above each fender-well on the front, facing to the side. 4 TIR3/ TIR6's on the rear of the utility box, possibly some on the rear side of the box too, like the front fenders.

Can't tell from the picture how wide the utility box ends are on each side, but I think another choice for the rear would be 2 911EP LS12's mounted on each side of the rear facing portion of the utility box. I also can't tell if there's any wide open spaces towards the top of the rear box, but if there is, either a WL/TD39 from 911 EP. Maybe some strobes in the rear taillights if they are halogens.

I went to take a more detailed look at this truck today, and mounted the console.

I was basically deciding on mounting locations for the LED's and for the siren speaker. And I figured out the mounting plates for the console.

Some things I didnt check, cause I was in a hurry (yes I know...my bad...) and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice:

What is the easiest way to get the headliner down?

Firewall Access Point

Good Ignition source for the radio

The power lug inside the little red box near the alternator, does anyone know what size this is?

I need to get some cables to the rear of the vehicle for LED's on the rear and for some utility lamps, good access point in the rear?

Thanks,
Nick
