Dualband antenna...
There are single, dualband antennas available that are the same size almost as a 1/4 wave VHF antenna. These are made by Comet, Diamond, and I run one that came from Antenna World in Florida and has an NMO mount. There's no need to compromise and risk an impedance mismatch on UHF by running a plain 19-inch whip because the dualband antennas can get pretty inexpensive.

I've been very happy with both the Maxrad MAX150/450 and also the Comtelco A1131, which has been mentioned on this board quite a bit. Both are VHF/UHF dual-band, and both are the same height as a 1/4 wave VHF with a little coil in the center.
