Whelen Freedom and sealing

Post by crazyboy »

Does anyone have any videos of a whelen freedom in action? Also how/what do I use to seal the spot where the lightbar wire enters the vehicle through the roof?

What radios do you own?: X9000 thru APX

Video's don't do justice to any lightbar, and yes it rocks.

Use silcon sealant or similar product. Works great as long as you apply it properly.

The NFPA freedom bar I had put on new rescue with 6 forward facing LEDs is just as bright if not brighter than the NFPA strobe bar on our tanker that has 8 forward facing strobes.

Are you talking about sealing it at the rood or where the rubber gasket is on the lightbar?

then yes - silicon Works fine - I have also seen conduit used...

But either way silicon is needed - also I have found wrapping the first 6 inches or so of the cable with electrical tape from the lightbar down makes for keeping the wires aligned and the hole in the roof to a minimum size...

If you get electronics-grade silicone adhesive (not silicone lubricant...) from an electronics shop, it doesn't contain acetic acid (the vinegar smell you have when you use typical RTV) and it a. won't stink and b. won't have any potential to attack the wire.

I've never seen the regular stuff attack wire... however, it does stink for quite awhile. That's reason enough to use the electronics-grade silicone.
