Minitor 5 falsing

Post by Alan »

Anyone else have the Minitor 5 pager falsing, particularly near electronic equipment (computers/fax machines).
I mean actual falsing (beeps) in the selective calling mode, not just opening squelch in the monitor mode.

Hell yeah, well not with the 5 but with my 2's, 3's, and 4's anytime they are in a certain range from either a T-Mobile or Cellular One phone it goes off with a long tone group alert.

I think it maybe due to the freq and band 1900 GSM.

I agree. Any pager M2 thru M5 next to a cell phone makes it freak.

Just my 2 cents but the M5 is more sensitive and depending on the freq.'s used you may be picking up skip or some other departments tones.

We have experenced something simular and found that it is another department on the same frequency.

Minitor V Falsing

Post by pcfire33 »

I've had a few pagers from various halls randomly false. One time the thing went off on my desk, my phone was across the room(iden).
I was told that there's new firmware on MOL, will this fix the problem?

Minitor V falsing

Thank God I found this site. I am the Comm Supervisor for the local Sheriff's Office. I will soon have 33 of these in service. Out of the first 18 we bought and I programmed, 12 have this problem. So far no one can tell me why. I have sent one to our vendor and they in turn sent it to Motorola. I will have it back tomorrow. Supposedly, Motorola sent a note back that basically says "if it works, we'll give you the directions to fix the rest of them". BTW, my Minitor IV works perfectly no matter where I go. Someday I'll learn that I am nothing more that a beta tester for Motorola's "new innovations".

We have rejected Motorolas fix for this problem as a proper solution. It is a bandaid at best.

After the fix is applied, you will notice it takes up to 2 seconds of tone B to decode. With a standard 1 second tone A and 3 second tone B, the pager gives a very short alert tone.

I've opened up a case on MOL and awaiting a official Motorola comment.
So far we've played phone tag....... I'll post our conversations as they take place.

so their solution was to make the required B tone time longer? Thats not a fix, thats just hiding the problem.

Motorola requested S/N's, Model #'s and firmware ver. The usual stuff.
Probably just "hurry up and wait" They tell me its going to engineering.
At least they admit that they've had "a few" problems.
I have a few pagers with falsing with A/B tones, most with long B.

I have had falsing problems when a Minitor V is setting near computer network lines. It happens on some frequencies and on some long tones. Motorola modified my codeplug and it did not help.
