ht1250 problems

Let's see.

My ht1250 turns off by itself out of nowhere (I have repositioned the battery)

the clock loses it's time.

the battery guage will say full, then dead battery then full again within a minute.

It goes OFF AND ON scan like it has it's own brain.

If I am RXing somebody and I hit my light button to see who it is, the radio shuts off.

It is driving me nuts. I will NOT lend it to a FF to take it into a building Because I am afraid if it turning off. What can I do?

Tempted to get a mdc board and go to kenwood.

when i run it on the latest software, it says unknown. on the back of the radio, it says R02.00.01- my zone button works!

Firmware is up to 5 something, I would get that updated and see what issues that takes care off first. Those radios had many issues in the early firmware revisions.

It is a download on MOL. You need a rib and motorola programming cable or motorola ribless programming cable. You also need this :

While updating the firmware is a good idea, I don't think that it's going to solve your problem. Question: Does the radio beep, when it has these problems? It sounds like the classic battery containment fix needs to be done. It needs to go back to the depot to have it done, check to see if it has a blue gasket around battery contacts on the radio chassis. If the gasket is blue, then the battery containment fix has been done.

The other concern is that when you read the radio, the current firmware version is not displayed. Where did you get this radio? If you got it from ebay, you may not even have an HT-1250. Does the model number display when you read it? Before you do anything make sure all the numbers are correct. (i.e. model, & s/n) Does the radio have a model/serial number sticker on the back?

it had an orange one, i took it out. I figured that would help. I am thinking about going to the ex600. would this gasket fix all of the problems?

Call a local Motorola shop and ask them about the firmware upgrade. They have done plenty of them, and would most likely do it for little cost, and you know it would be done properly.

I have had mine for a couple years and have never had a prob like you described, i have however had some problems like cold weather pissing it off, making the screen not work. i also have to take the battery off to charge it, i can't charge it while the radio is attached to the radio. i think that is an issue with the bottom label being missing.

The Waris firmware upgrade you ordered is for a Vehicular adaptor,It has its own CPS . I ordered the same thing and its a 3.5 floppy. I also would love to upgrade an HT1250 but all I got was the run around about ht upgrade, 1 shop says that it will have to be sent to the depot for this ,#2 says it can be done but would be as much as a new radio, #3 says it cannot be done there are no upgrades moto is just replacing them under warranty.

I think it can and has been done if could get the Flash key or part # for this.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR REFLASHING YOUR PROFESSIONAL SERIES
PORTABLE RADIOS

Welcome to the Motorola Professional Series Reflashing Instruction website. This software
will allow Motorola Authorized Two-Way Radio Dealers to upgrade firmware enhancements
on their Professional Series portable radios. Please following the instructions below when
reflashing the following radios: HT750, HT1250, MTX.LS, MTX.8250.LS

Reflashing Your Professional Series PORTABLE:

Requirements:

•
Reflashing software which is provided on the dealer web site
•
Reflashing Adapter - HLN9742A or HLN9742B - Note: The “B” version adapter will allow
you to reflash BOTH the mobiles and portables, and the “A” version adapter only allows
for reflashing of the portables. When using the version B adapter – switch the adapter to
the A position if you are reflashing a portable, and the B position if you are reflashing a
mobile.
•
Either the ribless programming cable (RKN4075) OR the programming cable
(AARKN4074) with a RIB
•
Computer – Minimum Requirements:
RAM 16 Mb
Hard Disk Space 10 Mb
Display Type VGA 16-Color
CPU 486 133MHz
Portable Reflashing Instructions:

(Note: These instructions must be followed in the exact order to work properly and if you have
any questions please contact Product Services at 1-800-927-2744, prompt #3):

1. Launch the upgrade kit on your PC.
2.
Secure adapter and attach programming cable to your portable radio and make sure that
your reflashing adapter is in the OFF position. (See Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 below for set up).
3. Turn the radio knob ON.
4. Click on PROGRAM on the reflashing tool (you will then see instructions pop up on the
screen).
5. Select the baud rate and hit OK.
6. Follow screen instructions, which are:
A. Turn your reflashing adapter ON (or in the A position if you are using an HLN9742B
adapter).
B.
Remove the battery from the radio and then reattach the battery.
WHEN THE BATTERY IS REATTACHED, THE RADIO DISPLAY WILL BE BLANK
AND THE RADIO WILL APPEAR TO NOT BE FUNCTIONING EVEN THOUGH THE
KNOB IS IN THE ON POSITION. THIS IS CORRECT!!! THE RADIO IS ACTUALLY
IN BOOTSTRAP MODE WHICH IS REQUIRED FOR REFLASHING!

7. Hit OK.
8. You will now see a status bar indicating the percentage completed.
9. When the radio is reflashed, remove the radio from the programming cable and turn OFF
the reflashing adapter (this is important, even if you are going to reflash another radio).

10.To reflash another radio, go back to step #2.

Confirming the Firmware Version in Your radio:

•
For display radios, you may view your software version via the menu on the radio (Select
UTILITIES then SOFTWARE VERSION).
•
For non-display radios, you may read the software version via your Professional Series
version 5.0 (or higher) CPS (Customer Programming Software).
Special Notes:

•
Depending on your computer, operating system and baud rate – reflashing times may
vary. We recommend using a ribless cable at 115k baud for a faster reflashing rate.
•
Once you begin to reflash a radio, it’s important not to interrupt the program (this may
cause recovery problems in which the radio may not operate anymore). If your radio gets
interrupted during reflashing, you will be instructed on the software how to attempt to
recover the firmware reflashing. If the radio is unrecoverable, the radio must be returned
to the Rockford depot for repair.
•
There is also a readme file available in the software, which includes additional tips and
directions.

Also, don't make the mistake I did

A radio with any firmware under R3.00.00 must be upgrade to that firmware version before it can be flashed to the latest.... I made that mistake on my HT1250 and have "synth unlock" as a result, and total lack of function except for a continuous beep and the unlock message..

Also, if the flash process doesn't work, unless the radio is able to function normally, you cannot restart the process, no matter what the software says....I've been there before, and in this situation, you need another radio that is functioning ok and able to be upgraded to the same firmware in order to trick the radio into flashing your unit that is in permanant bootstrap mode... this only pertains to a failed reflashing. My advice is to always use the slowest setting for flashing, 19,200bps - otherwise (at least in my situations) it's more prone to failing.

There are a lot of good revisions made after 2.00.00 that I like, including keypad lock and improvements to the receive audio... possibly the addition of 'non standard pl' operation as well.. I think it's worth it.

actually I got my VHF to go from 1.00.01 straight to 5.09.11 without even a blink of badness... now just need to figure out why the battery meter doesn't work.
