Ford F350 Console question

Post by JustaBuff »

Anyone have any experience with the new 06Ford F350 and using the Jotto Desk Contour under dash console - I have a new truck arriving and we are going to install the under dash unit, however today we just learned the truck has a trailer breaking system module in the dash that will need to be relocated. Im hoping to be able to trim a hole in the console to fit it, but havent gotten the truck here to check out how the module is installed factory or how long the factory harness is. Anyone pulled one out yet ?
thanks for the input.

We have used the Jotto Desk Contour Console for the F Series Ford trucks several times. they look good and mount with no issues. We have not had to deal with the new brake contollers yet.

I just went through the same thing in my 06 F450 .... I did'nt want to lose the cup holder and factory switchpack ... Jotto is working on a mod on that consol that will allow relocating the factory goodies. I just installed a floor consol for the time being.

I just did one of those last month. Ended up going with a floor console. The uplifter switches and the brake controller looked like a nightmare to remove, so we left it all alone. Let us know how you make out. I'd like to see it.

Truck arrived

Post by JustaBuff »

Well the truck just arrived - I will update with the results soon. we are trying to avoid using a floor mounted console because its a utility/support vehicle for an FD and they are looking to keep it to ride 3 front (not my advice of course). can someone send me PM with how to upload a pic into this ?? Im pretty new at this - I noticed some did the Yahoo thing with a link , and others posted right in here. Thanks again

Just about finished

Ok - the results are in. The brake module has enough cable to be relocated over to the right side bottom of the particular console we choose to use. with some work and some planning the unit is cut into the console and should hold fast. Hopefully if I did this right you guys should be able to see the end results. For those not familar with the JottoDesk unit I also included the link to the page for the before we cut it (forgot to take the pic ) - Imput is appreciated, please let me know what you may have done differently. Looks like we will do about 10 more of these in the next year.

Looks awesome, I have always considered using those in my installs. I wish they would start making something for my GM 5500.

For anyone using these... How are they holding up? Not just on street duty, but if I was to install these on trucks that spend 80% of their time off road? Not dirt roads, but off road and bad wash board. Are they squeaking up a storm?

Holding up

Post by JustaBuff »

No experience on the holding up for off road part..
but I will say this - Personal experience with 300+ consoles. I think the Jotto desk is a great product overall- the havis is very light weight. the troy is a great unit also but i like the finish much better on the Jotto, and its also real heavy metal like the troy, I also like my rep better there too, they are great listeners. I dont know if I would use an underdash unit for off roading unless you were using all remote units. Its held in place using the same factory holes - Into metal , but not alot of them. the added weight of full chassis models - expecially a siren may be to much given that extreme use. We have about 9 of these completed to date going back almost a year (first one with a trailer brake) - Not one returned for a problem with the console yet. we have about 100 Jotto floor mounts out there , no problems at all.

My concern... if the driver is pulling a trailer, he won't be able to get to the manual braking lever should it be needed (manual braking of just the trailer is really handy to calm down a "wagging" trailer). Also, adjusting the gain will prove to be a bit more difficult.

I love the TowCommand package on my F-350. Best trailer brake system I've ever used.

Glad to hear its actually a good system to use

I had no idea how the system even worked honestly. Thats good to know.
however the location of that unit is within reach of the driver. although not as perfect as it is by the factory install, especially if a trailer was to go out of control. I could have located a bit more to the drivers side but was trying to keep it more centered. This dept only pulls a decon trailer more than likely less than 20 miles from its station to any scene in the county. There are no hills either.
Depending on the radio setup and how much face plate space you need, Jotto has a new solution, they sent me an email today that as of next they will have a 3inch face plate available to fit the unit. however it would not have worked for our application as the CenCom control and the LowBand CDM were the priorities closest to the driver.
