We have upgraded our 3.0 system to a 4.1 system. After the upgrade we started seeing a symbol on the dispach consoles where the receive audio speaker symbol should be. It is the speaker symbol with the "International Not Symbol" around it. That is a circle with a line through it. It does not happen everytime and dispatch is worried about missing audio. Motorola has been working on this for 9 months with no solution in site. They thought it was related to the number of diu's we have but that is not the case. Anybode else seen this symbol? Any ideas i can pass on to motorola?
Thank You

I assume there is no audio heard by the dispatcher when this symbol shows up. Is there some indication that someone is talking such as a unit ID appearing in that resource and the activity log?
Is it possible to monitor the suspect talkgroup with a portable radio to confirm if audio is actually present?
Is it possible that the talkgroup is configured to allow 'calls without console' and when there is a call taking place on one or more sites on that talkgroup but for some reason the system has no path to route audio to dispatch? Maybe the console is trying to tell the dispatcher about the activity and lack of audio?
Have you tried to hit the transmit while the symbol is appearing? It is possible that some helpful error message would appear in the status line. [It's amazing how many times I forget to look there for clues!]

Migrating Gold Elite from SmartNet 3.0 to SmartZone 4.1
A "Not" circle displayed over the speaker icon should imply that the speaker has been muted - probably via the "All Mute" switch. But that's only the symptom of a basic and more serious problem, a software version conflict.
You cannot simply migrate the CEB from old system to new using the old SN 3.0 config files. It must be reconfigured using the new (later version) of CDM that shipped with the SZ 4.1 system. This process requires a MUPL for each COIM, one at a time. It usually also requires new firmware for every COIM and LOMI card, unless you already upgraded within the previous year.
We normally state that one full shift of down time will be needed for setup of 8 OPs and 2 LOMI cards. We've needed all 8 hours to migrate only one time, but never got a live center done in less than five hours, even though the server was preconfigured off-line.

We recently upgraded our consoles from NT 4.0 to WinXP, along with upgrades being done on the infrastructure side to accomdate this (not sure of version numbers). Anywho, just yesterday I received a report of the same thing happening...the speaker icon with the 'not symbol' showing up sometimes, but audio was still coming through.
In our case at least, the answer was fairly simple, and it had to do with encryption. A few tests showed that the symbol only showed when the field radios in question were transmitting in clear mode, while the console was set to transmit in encrypted mode on that particular talkgroup. It seems to me that it's a warning to the dispatcher not to discuss anything sensitive with the field unit, until they switch their radio to encrypted mode. Hope this helps you in some way.

Todd,
You might want to check that again. According to the Elite Dispatch User's Guide, what you are referring to is called: "Cross-Mode Alert". This should be indicated by a flashing padlock symbol.
If the incoming call is secure when the dispatcher is set for clear transmit the symbol is a locked padlock. If the incoming call is clear when the dispatcher is set to coded the symbol is an unlocked padlock.
I have tested that on our system and verified that it works the way the book says.

That's the way it always worked when we were running some DVP Securenet encryption with the NT 4.0 stuff as well. Over the past few years & especially since the system was upgraded, we aren't involved with it as much. I took the call over the phone with one of my other techs & this (the speaker with the line through it) is what was happening now. I didn't ask if the padlocks were flashing as well or not. Perhaps it's a config setting of some type, or some sort of bug. Either way, it appears to be encryption related.xmo wrote:Todd,
