Generating GOLAY and POCSAG

Post by Hoseman292 »

Gents,

Recently I was able to pick up a few old pagers to play with.

The first is a BPR2000 numeric 152.130 MHz PermacodePlug info is 008398Y12A.

Second is a Bravo Tone tone-only on 152.240 with a cap code of 129976.

Last is a MetRx tone-only pager on 152.130 and what appears as 9-72714 as the pager's cap code.

I've tried paging them with a service monitor and a Code Synthesizer (II) with the output successfully modulated on each pager's frequency but pagers not decode. I'm almost certain these pagers used GOLAY but the 6 digit cap code errors when loaded into the Code Synthesizer. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Tim

I believe GOLAY capcodes are in octal, meaning values of 0-7 are the only values allowed (3 bits). That's likely why your code synth isn't happy.

But, it's been a LONG time since I've dealt with anything GSC.

It's been a long time, but I'll try to remember the sequence. The R1150 requires 8 digits to send a golay page. First enter the six digit cap code, then the address code (1-4) then the function code (tone only, tone & voice or numeric). IIRC the last digit should be a 5 or 6 for numeric or a 7 or 8 for alpha-numeric. Like I said, it's been a long time & I don't have any 1150 ops manual to refer to anymore.
