ADVISOR Programming

Post by Iguana »

Hi,
I have an advisor pager, when I'm trying to read it using the advisor rss version 07.02 (the latest), I got an error message "INCORRECT DATA HAS BEEN RECEIVED.....".
May be it causes because the pager was programmed using a password?
I have tryed 2 different pagers: 1. Man. date is 1991, 2. man. date is 1994.
The programmer that i built is like a standart: 2 IC's MAX232 and LM339
I even tryed to use only MAX232 without LM339 with/without feedback
but i got the same message.
Also my friend that has an original pager cannot read the new pagers. (after 1994) maybe because their id is 7 digits and not 6 ?
Thank you very much for help!!!!!!!!

The problem is in the interface / OS platform.

The pager software would kick up a password entry screen if it had a password, but you're not even getting that far.

Either the interface is bad, or you're not in a true DOS environment. (Or the pager is bad.)

Old pager vs. New: Makes no difference. The software will read a POCSAG or GSC pager.

Try reading the pager with your friends set-up. UPI, Cradle, Software and computer. Make sure they CAN be read. Then go, switch pieces around until yours works.

Just stick with DOS, NOT windows. I woundn't worry about the files, etc until later. Stick with DOS for now.

If you are using 98, before 98 starts, press F8 and go to "safe mode command prompt" Then it won't load all the drivers etc.

That should work also.

If you have Windows98, try going to the C:\Windows folder & find the 'MS-DOS Mode for Games with EMS & XMS Support' icon. Double-click that & your computer will reboot into a much better DOS mode. To reboot back into Windows you must type 'exit' at the prompt (even a hard reboot will come up in DOS mode otherwise). This will often work when the 'reboot into MS-DOS' or 'F8-command prompt only' doesn't.
