I want to relocate a spectra-tac reciever to a fringe area of our system. We have fiber in the building and we own it all the way back to our dispatch center some 4 miles away, I am not sure what kind of fiber it is, but what I was wondering is what kind of product I can use to use this fiber to connect our spectra-tac reciever to the spectra-tac voter at dispatch. I am sure there must be some kind of fiber converters out there any suggestions Please pass them along.

Fiber
I don't know of any analog audio to fiber converters. This will likely take a two step process.
If the distance is really 4 miles the fiber will have to be single mode fiber. Assuming this is correct you will need something like:
2ea JPS NXU-2 network converter; Audio to IP
2ea Transition Networks Media Converter 100 BaseT to SM Short Haul
Misc Cables and Power Supplies.
Cost will be about $5,000 total materials for the "hop", not including installation.
As you can see, the cost of lighting the fiber may not have a ROI (return of investment) compared to a leased line.

not knowing too much I did a google search for about 20 min on fiber converters ect, and came up with this company and product(s), would this work? I will have to wait to find out about the cost but the description talks about audio and fiber???

2 things:
1) Please refrain from talking about or reccomending JPS. One of your local Batmen (me) happens to compete with them (even though im a gnat on a elephant's ass in company size) and would not like anyone to get any ideas (I know I can't control this, but it drives me nuts.) Plus, they are over-priced and not that good to begin with (I can expound on why at your request) I Believe they are UDP/RTP which is not a good match with a radio system of sensitive nature for many reasons.
2) I dont see any reason why you can't do audio over fiber. Then again you can pretty much do anything if budget permits, just ask OJ Simpson. Optical stereo cables are essentially short runs of fiber (right?) and you just have to have the encode/decode ability somewhere in endpoints of the equation (in that case each component in the stereo)
Lastly, if you can get to the batlabs website (public internet) you can do what you want to do for well under $1000 with my product, you just need to be able to launch your internet browser and surf, plus have 56K or higher bandwidth. It will stay up forever as long as you have power backup. If your system dosent have power backup then don't sweat that detail since your only as strong as your weakest link and what good is your RX voter if the main TX site is down. Whether it is 4 miles or 40,000 miles apart, distance hurdles are now a thing of the past since you can route traffic to any adress anywhere in the world on the public internet. ..K.I.S.S (I remember my math teacher used to say that.)
